Entry Fitness Standards - 4RAR vs. RM

Post by Aussie »

Hey guys, I was just wondering what exactly are the minimum fitness standards to begin Royal Marine training? I just wanna to compare it to 4RAR (Cdo) - 4th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (Commando), which will hopefully be my future unit.

The minimum standard to begin training for the Australian Commando's is...

Bleep Test to Level 10
30 push-ups
60 sit-ups
6 heaves 9 (chin-ups)

The initial physical entry tests for the Royal Marines are in two parts -
1. Treadmill test at careers office - 1.5 miles in 10.30 minutes (i think - i never had to do this one)
2. PRMC (Potential Royal Marines Course) - This Is a three day course held at Commando training center Royal Marines in Lympston, Devon.
The tests you will face on this course are (in order)-
Day one -
- Gym test one, which includes the following: -
- Bleep test - deffinatly above level 10 - preferably above level 12 - they wanna see level 14.
- Press-ups - minimum 20 max 60
- Sit-ups - Minimum 30 - max 80 - they wanna see maximums on both, a low score is not favourable
- Overgrasp pull-ups (palms facing away) - minimum 3 - max 6

- Bottom field - 2 - 4 hour thrashing in combat fatigues and boots including a timed run around the assualt course and a hights test.

Day 2 -
- 3 mile run - 22.5 minutes as a squad - the run is usually carried out in a much quicker time with sections of sprinting thrown in (most people fail on this part)
- Gym test 2 - Anoter thrashing in the gym hall.

Day 3 is all admin.

Hope that helps -
there's usually between 30 and 60 blokes on a course, Pass rates vary greatly between every course, sometimes loads pass sometimes just a handfull.

hey aussie my brother is in 2rar and is going for sasr at the end of the year he had a mate in 4rar(he is sas now) and he told me that before basic training you should be able to do at least 60 push ups 100 situps and 20 pull ups. and be able to run 8k or so.(i am assuming you are going for sf direct entry like me). also to note your training from basic - inf-then commando will all be done with other sf candidates so it wont be a walk in the park like the normal basic training . and the sgt in charge of training will be a commando dont know about the corporal(i am assuming they are) if the corporals are not they would be at least inf.

Good luck with your application and Train now dont leave it to the last minute
By the way i am in brisbane.
