I don't see why the army or whatever force should target asians (for example) specifically. If an asian wants to join up then fair play to them but why try to recruit certain ethnic minorities, just to please the PC brigade?
If they want true fairness and equality then why should race be an issue?

This past summer my company was tasked to aid in firefighting in B.C. I have 2 black men in my company and one woman no one of asian decent. Now these two blokes are good men and work just as hard as the white boys which for the most part I would say makes up about 95% of the Canadian Forces for whatever reasons. Now the reporters came to our camp talked to the company commander and while I was there they straight out asked if we had any minoritys for the interview. That made me mad as hell these weren't based on merit but on the colour of skin. Both of the black fellows were asked to be interview two white boys and then the girl. One of them Pte. Bordman came to me and said "Sagent, I don't want to be interviewed just because I'm f@#k black." And I said to him "f@#k rights you tosser, go have some beers." He went off to the mess and had a good time with his mates and I while Missy Love who seems to think she is a model and the other troop were both on T.V. That isn't right boys (and girls,) they should go out and say "Send us your top 5 troops for interviews.

One of my best buds in the Paras was Black. The colour of his skin was never an issue and he was a popular top bloke. The only abuse we gave him was to call him a 'Pantomine Dame' because of his extrordinary resemblence to former heavy weight boxer and Panto star - Frank Bruno!
The only thing I can think off for lack of recruits from ethnic comunities is,
well, mud sticks. Wether or not the problem is going away or getting worse, people remember things and if isolated incidents of abuse are getting into the papers their magnified ten-fold,the same in any male dominated industry. For an ethnic person I would imagine joining up would be like stepping into the lions den but not knowing if the lion was home or not. In other words, would the abuse start or would things be ok? In my opinion I think the correct measures down the chain of command are in place to ensure it dosnt happen and if it does it will be dealt with, but there will always be incidents that beat the system - unfortunately these are the ones that are causing the issue.
Another thought : people just aren't as patriotic these days

It depends just how sensitve you are, there is a lot banter between, English/Irish/Scots, and Welsh who call each other endless names. The odd names and nick names are part of the forces, when ever I meet any of the chaps that I served with I am still called it, and I address them by theirs, that is a part of being in the Army. The thing to watch out for if any one get to stroppy with you, if they do belt them one before they get other people on their side.

At the same time saying a racist word when argueing with a man of a different race doesn't make you a racist either. It is when it is consistent, unwanted verbal abuse and a real air of arogance that you are better because of your origin.

Another point on this issue, if you don't like someones religious stance it doesn't make you bigotted or racist either I would say. For example I don't like fundementalist muslim because I have a real problem with the way they treat women, irrational hatred of jews and I find them to be in most cases hypocritical bullshitters. Examples: I mentioned before a man tried to buy my then girlfriend from me once, the whole veil thing in Afghanistan a women can be taken and brought to the doctors office if it has been thought she has had pre-marital sex and be forced into a vaginal examination. They get on the western airplanes and don business suits and drink the free airplane booze. I have no problem with mainstreamers but those who rule and those who terrorize are about to have a foot so far up their ass its going to knock their teeth out.

Ben,

I am nationalist and patriotic not rasist and i will have no problem with other races in the army (in Britain is another story completely and we won't go there) if like all the other soldiers in the platoon they proove themselves to be a good soldier and work hard.

But can i just ask in my ignorance why you have the poem, "Keep St.George in my heart keep me English" when you are from Canada.

I know you said we won't go there but I'm an explorer :) What do you mean "other races in Britain"? Do you mean you don't like other races living in your country but don't mind them risking there lives for it? I hope that's not what you mean, just so I don't misunderstand you, can you be more specific.

When you make your profile it ask's you "Location:"
Where am I Canada.
Where am I from England born and raised.
Why am I in Canada my folks died out and the closest of kin was here so it's where I hail from these days, until I served my time and do a jig and get myself a gootchi job with plenty LCF doing very little. Hopefully in Alabama, BC or back home but farther North I always liked Scotchland much better place than Hackney aye you lucky twatty scots.
