It seems a commonwealth citizen can join the Royal Marines after said citizen has resided for a period no shorter than three and no longer than five years.
My problem is I don't know how to go about attaining a Visa for three to five years.
Does that mean that I have to contact my nearest UK consulate and request to emmigrate to the UK or can I request a working holiday Visa then apply for naturilization when I reach the UK.
Does this really need to be this bloody hard or is it just some bureacrats' idea of a bad joke.
If any other Commonwealth RM's have any helpfull info post or PM me.

famewolf,
The Forces need men and those rules you read are bollocks and only there to deter those who aren't serious. They'll accept you if you pass the PRMC and you leave and enter the UK as you please while a member of HM Forces. Not to worry!
Hint: the next block they put at you once you're in the door of the AFCO is ask how much debt you have, get a letter from your bank showing your acct balance, student loan balance, credit card balance etc., it may require 3 different letters and the bank will be slow but keep the pressure on/.
Do you have British Nationality? If not, do you have ancestry (one grandparent)? If not, apply for the 2 yr work holiday visa, get to the UK, get a job and address and start the process, I guess by going to the AFCO. You cannot just emigrate to the UK as far as I know, unless you have a slick immigration lawyer. If you want the details, look at this, I'm sure its the same in SA: http://www.britainincanada.org/Visa/It seems a commonwealth citizen can join the Royal Marines after said citizen has resided for a period no shorter than three and no longer than five years.

"Poor Ike, it won't be a bit like the Army. He'll find it very frustrating. He'll sit here and he'll say, 'Do this! Do that!' And nothing will happen."

Hey mate,
I wouldn't worry too much about the 5 year rule, many commonwealth countries are excempt from this such as Australia, NZ and SAF as well I think. Check this excemption out, then a 2 year work holiday visa would be sweet. I advise calling the London RN and RM careers office, they're really helpful and cleared up all my questions as they have an Overseas recruiting officer there. (I found the general RN recruitment line people didn't know a whole lot about the residency issues).
You can reach the London office on: 44 20 7305 3328
Good luck mate.
