Can somebody tell me what the field training is like, what do you do, how long is it?, is it a good experience, what is the final exercise like? what does it consist of??
RUNNING DISTANCES WITH MAPS REACJING CERTAIN POINTS IN A CERTAIN TIME.
SURVIVAL SKILLS SUCH AS SETTING UP A BIVVY, FIRE LIGHTING,
NIGHT WATCH, WHICH WILL CONSIST OF NIGHTS DOING 2 HOURS WATCH THEN TWO HOURS SLEEP ETC
WEOPON TRAINING IS AT A MINIMUM DURING INITAIL TRAINING.
THEY WILL JUST PUSH YOU THROUGH SLEEP DEPREVATION, HUNGER AND MENTAL ABILITY WHEN UNDER PRESSURE TO SEE IF YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO JOIN
I did my recruit training in 88 at RAF Swinderby , Military Field Training or MFT as it was known consisted of a week at RAF Luffenham after all important fitness training and range work was passed
From what i remember the first couple of days were taken up mostly with runs around the peri track as a squad, sometimes the runs were in NBC kit including respirator. We also received instruction on patrolling techniques and fieldcraft.
The week started out in tents in a hanger but there was a night out under the stars . This was when the "battle" phase began , basically with an attack on the spinney followed by forming a harbour area and bashering out for the night. Sometime during the week there was also an atttack on a bomb dump ( we jumped out of the back of 4 tonners then , not sure if thats allowed anymore in training ) followed by defence of the same area.
We didnt do any nav or maps, we did lots of crawling around on our belt buckles and loads of pokey drill
The field training is called Ground Defence Training (GDT) and is taken by RAF Reg NCO's. It includes patrollling, NBC drills, sentry training, and lots of crawling about. On the final exercise you are fully kitted up and wearing a respirator and have to raid buildings and things like that. I have aa mate who passed out of Halton a couple of months ago and he lovedd GDT but said its hard work.
Hope this helps
Adam
p.s Have you got your date for joining yet Jesovdarlo?
