anyone started basic training recently? requirements?

Post by vincenzo »

Anyone gone through basic/phase 1 recently?

im starting at ATR Winchester in mid-november, so 5 weeks away. im fairly fit, but am i fit enough?

im currently running 3miles on roads in 24 mins(hilly course), every other day.then go to gym to bike 15 mins or x-trainer.

sometimes followed by weights or circuits(squats 100kg, deadlift 70kg,other exercises) or 45 pressups,60 situps, 15 pullups(chins).

can only get 1.5m run down to about 11.20 at moment, but longer runs no problems at 8min mile pace.

is this enough of a fitness base to do phase 1 training? what will i expect to do in first few weeks as id like to be able to do these without too much trouble.

should i start running in boots? any tips for fitness ?

thanks for anyone who can advise me.

Don't bother running in boots-you won't be tested on the 1.5m run in them, just trainers. I went to RMAS with a 10.00 min 1.5m and had no probs coping with training but I was slower than average, peaking at 9 min 20 sec. I've trained with weights for years and years and was disappointed that in basic they were more concerned about numbers of chins, pressups and situps than proper form. Have you ever run the 1.5m eyeballs out? Bet if you had a squad to keep up with and a PTI present you’ll be doing under 10 min at Winchester easily!
