Eyesight Standards for Officers

Post by Wolf_Larsen »

Hello. I hope to apply for a commission in the Navy soon, as a warfare officer. I have found a good document at

http://www.assoc-optometrists.org/uploa ... 4-navy.pdf

about the eyesight requirements for the various career specialisations; unfortunately, I don't understand all of the abbreviations.

In the officers' specialisations section at the top of page three, what do 'Aircrew GL, SL, SD and SS' and 'SD(AV)' stand for? Which class are Warfare and Supply Officers?

thank-you

Interestingly, one can join as aircrew with significant defects of vision, although one would presumably be at a great disadvantage in the fierce competition for places.

as regard to aircrew as far as i know. No there a preset requirments you need to meet for this. Same for surface. Cant see so much of a problem with supply.
Subs on the other hand I believe make you shortsighted at least temp.
