If you have a tattoo, are you still able to join the Special Forces?

Barca, the thing about tatoos is that they can be used against you in 'Resistance to Interogation' training.

When I joined 23 I had (have) a Globe and Laurel tatoo on my left forearm. Don't ask - it involved a lot of drink and some 'friends' in the Andrew and a seaside resort. I was told it was ok to be tatood as long it was not visible when wearing lightweights and a wooly pullover or were racist or obscene.

The big NO NO was to have a winged dagger, while still serving. Once in civvy street you could have as many winged daggers as you wanted, as long as you could stand the pi** taking. Never did come across anyone (who had passed selection ) who did.

But a lot of ex para had red berets on skulls etc etc and it was never a great problem.

If I was on an excercise where it might be worry I would shave the area and fix a large elastoplast over it, with a couple of drops of chichen blood, to aid realism. I did it without shaving the area once and once only.

I'd say 4 out of 5 of the locals have tatoos - and that includes persons in special projects.

Some of them had them before Selection and I know one who has had lots of work (lover arm & wrist- very noticeable) done recently.

I should'nt worry - unless you got 'who dares wins' across your chest

Lew. you will find people who have freshly passed the Pars course sew their wings onto everything including their pajamas and a lot have them tattooed on their arms.

Some people regret it later, some don't, so it is up to you, BUT the best advice..........if you are going to have a tattoo BE SOBER when you have it done.

I wanted a tattoo but I have a skin thing called keloids formation (or something like that) my skin over heals leaving a big scar around the edge of the tattoo, plus I don't fancy having an image that I thought looked good at the time on my body for the rest of my life.

I know a lot of people that are ex-forces that have tattoos. Some of the them have been KB'd from overseas contract work because of them - especially the die-hard style para wings!!!

I saw some fat bloke in tenerife with a winged dagger tattoo posing away trying to look hard.

I was just praying he'd say something so I could ask him some choice questions.........

But I figure...if people want to delude themselves it's up to them...they end up looking like nobs.

Harry,

Oddly enough I have been to Tenerife, last time I counted I had been to thirty one and a half countries. :o :D

The half is Luxembourg, don't laugh but we may have crossed the wrong river. We sent one lad down to a little village to get some ham sandwiches and beer (as you do on tactical exercises) he came back with said goodies and said he had problems paying for them with our Belgian emergency escape money as they took Luxembourg money. :D :o

Any way I don't have a tattoo of a winged dagger, just a globe and laurel on my left fore arm. :o
