Whats the Reason?

Just wondering about this guys, but every so often someone joins us on this forum and then they for no apparent reason do things which they should know will not be tollerated here. The people I am suggesting in particular are Maverick and Hawkeye (two people i have come across since joining). Why do you think these people do these things (such as posting stupid things or being a walter mitty), that they should know will cause disorder in the ranks?

If any of you budding psychologists out there can shed some light on the matter, that would be much appreciated.

It's the same with pretty much any online forums. There are always a few sad cases who go around the internet looking to start "fights". These individuals obviously have nothing better to do with their time and must amuse themselves by stirring up heated debates. These people do things that will "cause disorder in the ranks" because they enjoy doing so, and the resulting attention. But please, remember one thing:

"Arguing over the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. You may win, but at the end of the day you're still retarded."

I'll also add that I don't think Maverick intended to cause such a heated debate. Maybe he was a little naiive in thinking that such a sensitive topic would be taken lightly on a forum such as this one. His original post was fine, but he just dug himself deeper and deeper into a hole with some of his arguements.

I work with someone who has a few gold medals from the Special Olympics and an OBE. He's not "retarded" by any means - he was dealt a difficult hand from birth and has worked to achieve what all of us on here can only dream about. I think that you should count your blessings instead of mocking the afflicted - something that my dad taught me a long, long time ago.

I am just adding my 2 pennies worth, the problem with some of us including myself (although I am no longer a student) is that we have this idealistic and revolutionary view that we want to change the injustices of the world’ and we have this delusion that ‘we think we know everything’ because we read/ heard it in certain supposedly reputable newspapers/media news channels etc. Sometimes it gets confusing to distinguish between a 'freedom fighter' and a ‘terrorist’. We tend to unfairly compare all these conflicts around the world and apply a certain political situation to a certain country, but maybe each conflict has different political, ethnic, economic agenda ! I hope you get my drift.

Also, the media, I think, are partly responsible by portraying these terrorists in a positive light and brainwashing us to believe their grievances. Moreover, some of us are sometimes gullible in believing the hype. Actually, the experienced realists of the Forum know 'the World' better than us, it good to know that we have some of you guys keep us in check !

NO, this is not true, it is just a stereotypical view of students being, hippy twats that want to feed the hungry and home the homeless, and think they can do it as they have read Plato, at uni for the last four years... have any of you been to a college or uni lately??? The majority don’t give a shit about any of this...

I asked people in my old school what they thought about the gulf war, their reply, why should I f@#k care, its not here...

Young people can’t win either way; if you go on to further education you are looked at as an educated idiot, or idealist!!! Whose opinion is worth nothing, and if you’re not in further education you’re a waster who will amount to nothing and no one will value your opinion either...

There I said it, feel better for that...
