Can/Should I apply now?

Post by James »

I have one year left of college and then i want to join the marines, I have been training even though i have not actually started the process of joining yet and feel almost fit enough to attempt the prmc. I am planning on going down and starting the process within the next week. However I am wondering is this too soon seeing as there is a year to go before I want to start training as thats when I finish my education. So what i would have to do is get the everything rolling and get my prmc out of the way and tell them that I want to start basic after or during August next year depending on the date they give me. Would they let me do this? How long does the whole thing usually take from initial interview to the start of basic? So would it be alright for me to apply say this week? Or should i wait until a bit closer to the time so there wont be a delay after the prmc and to when I actually starting basic.

Cheers,

James

James, Chris Lees took about 3-4 months to get through the system, but he is one of the hopeless cases!
Go down to the AFCO and ask their opinion, I'm sure they would rather you finished your education as planned. There is no reason, however, why you cannot arrange dates for PRMC etc.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

I just would prefur to get everything sorted out before everything gets busy for me in early 2004 and therefore having to wait from passing my prmc and then going into training. Instead of applying in early next year when everything is much busier college wise and therefore not being able to devote more to training, i feel i would definately be physically ready for a prmc in the next couple of months too.

As a general rule of thumb once you have passed the PRMC, they will want you to start basic within 8 to 12 weeks, 12 being the longest you could expect to wait, if you do really well they could call you back in a couple of weeks.

Get your dates sorted and all of the paperwork and medicals sorted, but be aware that once you pass the PRMC they like you to start pretty soon.
If they let you delay your start date for a year how do they know you will still be fit enough when you come back??

My original date was in May (I didn't attend this prmc but thats another story) having been to the careers office in January for the first time.
4-5 months

Get all the paperwork, medical and other crap out of the way, do your exams and book a prmc for next July mate.

Good luck 8)

Mate ill take your advice, ill explain the situtation then hopefuly it'll happen just as you said getting on the paperwork etc etc out of the way and then a prmc date earlyish 2004 and then go into training after exams.

James, the lads have become used to using correct spelling and punctuation etc. It helps people read their posts/questions, thereby ensuring they receive a prompt reply. They are actually being helpful, bless their cotton socks.

when i first tried to apply to join the marines i had a year left of my college course to do and the AFCO said they would prefer it if i waited until i had at least 6months of the course left so that they could process everything within a certain time limit.
After speaking with them again i applied the day i finished college(early june)and now have my prmc 16th sept which lets me relax a little over the summer but still train hard.
Just listen to the lads at the AFCO as they will advise to the best of their abbilities and you dont want to jeopardise your college course by training to hard for your prmc.
good luck with things james and keep us posted :D

James............With the many threads posted i think it is important that everyone tries to punctatuate and spells as best as possible coz it makes it lot easier to read some of the threads get really rambly and us old tired sods get frustrated and picky on these points it just makes for an easier life allround for everyone. :D

Good luck with joining Royal, plenty of good advice in this forum.
