Support for the lads

Post by Beasta »

I listen to Talksport of a morning on the way into work. The presenter was trying to come up with a way which we could show support for our lads out in the gulf. He said that every British footballer who wanted to should wear a Union Jack on their kit on Saturday. Would be good for the morale if the lads see pictures of footballers supporting them for once.
You got people phoning in saying it would alienate the foreigners etc, and we sholdn't be proud of whats happening Well they were quick to alienate us in the UN..no matter what peoples opinions on the reasoning behind this war, everyone should be getting behind the troops. Anyone who tells me they are not supporting them will face the consequences

Why are people in this country so afraid to be patriotic. Jesus, even the Daily Mirror has issued a rallying call to get behind the troops.

Are there any ways we can collectively show our support??????

You don't need to be proud of what's happening to be proud of the way our lads and lasses cope with the problems we have heard about, face danger and, as has always been the case with the British soldier (includes RM), do a bloody wonderful job. Those before us set the standard, we tried to maintain it and have now passed the task into equally good hands, God bless and safe passage to them all.

I agree it would be great to do something to show our patriotism and support for the troops. I was serriously pi**ed off today, when I heard someone on Five Live spouting some garbage about how our troops were war criminals and shouldn`t be allowed back into the country. Well I`ve got myself a Union Jack to fly ,and show MY support and patriotism.

Slightly off thread, but still makes me indignant, Wogan, on R2 this morn, somebody sent in a piece from a local rag; The council has decided that 'Hot Cross Buns' will not be served in local schools as they want to avoid upsetting Minorities, and want to move away from religious symbolism. Well I'm not a Christian/Bhuddist/Muslim or any ism, but isn't Easter about Religion and symbolism?
Gt Britain, this is the country our team are fighting for. We are required to show more understanding to the people they are fighting than our own folks.
I defy anybody to tell me not to be patriotic, I don't agree with Blair, but I'm 100% behind the team.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

War Crimes my aras. The people who go out to be human shields in old London buses should be tried for treason and beheaded on London Bridge. Seriously gets my goat when they care more about the Iraqi people than they do about their own. Im not saying its right and I dont want to see innocents die as its not their fault that this pr**k is in charge of them. But sooner them than one of our troops..or indeed an innocent Brit.

Individually there is not a great amount you can do unless you want to put some serious effort in (organsing events etc), but there are a few simple things. If you go to www.bfpo.org.uk there's a bulletin board affair where you can send short messages to the lads (not just in the gulf), which is becoming quite popular so long loading times are to be expected. You can also send Emails to various news places supporting the troops - it might not do very much but we can at least give them an excuse to say "we've had oodles of messages of support for the troops" which might help a little bit.

Ideally some well known and charismatic people could organsie a rally in support to counter all the anti war protests, as I've hardly seen any marches in support of anything lately. Or perhaps get together with some friends and run a charity event for the Royal British Legion or somesuch, it might not directly help the men but the it's the thought that counts. Generally anything which can get noticed by them to show we care, as a number of times unfortunately I've seen interviews from the gulf of blokes saying they don't think public support in the UK is very great, and it would probably be a morale booster to some extent if the country as a whole could show that's not the case.

EDIT: Please be aware that a highly intelligent virus called Rodney had, for the time in which I was typing the first half of this post, infected my hands causing them to go all wobbly; I am happy to report however that I am now fully recovered and have corrected the obscene typing errors but if anyone has any lasting psychological scars and needs therapy to overcome the sudden influx of meaningless jibberish, the right honourable Mr. Parry will gladly assist with the aid of a sharp scalpel and a pot of engine oil.

I agree that these "peace demonstrators" should be tried for treason. If they are so concerned they should go and live in Iraq for a while to get a real feel for what is right and wrong. Maybe while they are there they could organise some anti Saddam demos, 'cos I'm sure he would sit and take notice then.

Ah, ... but that's the thing about "Protesters" ... they rarely "Protest" in the Country of the people they claim to be "Protesting" on behalf of .. the few idiots who do perform abroad & get the Sh1t kicked out of them by the local Old Bill, then arrive at Heathrow & give weepy press conferences, because said local Old Bill didn't apologise for "disrupting" their civil rights, like happens here ... & no one took them seriously when they tried to complain against Police ... & yet they still have the gall to slag off the "kid glove" treatment they receive on British streets !

Lacking the basic sense to move their hands up & down, makes them a bunch of "Grippers" !!! :fist:

I just came across this on Sky News - it's good to see some open support for the troops.

Saturday March 29, 03:28 PM

Rally In Support Of Brit Troops
Hundreds of people are expected to attend a rally today in support of UK troops in Iraq.Ken Hill, a former member of the Royal Corps Signals, has organised the event taking place in Exeter, Devon, to send a message of support to servicemen and women and their families.Mr Hill, 43, from Exeter, said the rally was not pro-war but specifically aimed at letting the troops know that people in the UK were backing them.

He said: "I want to show the troops out there that people over here do support them.

"The families are having a rough time and I wanted to help boost morale for them and for the troops.

"I feel the anti-war protesters are getting too much press and causing a lot of distress to the families of those out there.

"But it is not a pro-war rally because no one really supports the war because wars aren't nice, but we do support our boys who are out there doing their professional jobs."

The rally is taking place at 1pm today in the Princes Haye pedestrianised precinct in Exeter.

Mr Hill said he expected several hundred people to attend.

A demonstration by the Anti-war Coalition is also planned in the same area this afternoon.

These anti war protesters are an insult to our free society that our forefathers/mothers fought for in the previous two great conflicts,
they should be eternally greatful that they have the right to protest, and that they are not living under a despotic junta such as the one that our brave forces are fighting against, and that these dicks are backing.

If they are so concerned about that country then why not do us all a favour, and up sticks and reside amongst them for good!! :fist:

And also on the subject of PC that el prez raised, the crown badge that I now serve under is to be replaced by a so called non religous one!!!!

What aload of bullshite that politics generates in keeping the non british citizens happy and sweet.

GOD SPEED ROYAL and all the lads and lasses out there
enlightenment aint just turning the lite on,its been able to see in the dark!!!!

Meeting in Exeter

Post by sgriffin »

About 2 - 300 people attended the meeting on Saturday in Exeter, which Kenny Hill organised.

More of the same is needed to show our support for the boys.
