Hand to hand combat ???

Post by lew »

Are there any particular styles that are used when teaching recruit's hand to hand combat, I have heard that you only do boxing, is this true??? Personally I cant see boxing being very effective if your fighting against someone who is skilled in achedo (spelling) any input would be great thanks guys…

Mate no hand to hand combat technique is better than a round from an assault rifle and hence has little to no place on a battle field. :o If you are that close you have probably already made the mistake.

Common belief is that all training will go out the window. First aim is to break the legs with hard blow to the front or side of the knees and then take out the eyes with your fingers. He is then useless and a burden to his mates.

That sounds like achedo (spelling) its all about using the other persons body weight against them, it brilliant, means a smaller person such as my self can throw a 15 stone giant with very little effort. And for anyone wondering what it is, watch some of the Steven seagal films...

the best moves for hand to hand combat are the ones that are banned in competitions eg eye gouges, groin strikes. but the best idea is to hit them with the heaviest thing you can grab as hard as you can. as for martial arts being more effective than boxing maybe you should stick to films.

First of all boxing is also a martial art. Believe it or not. Although in my eyes it is a little limiting. I know that it all depends on the person and not the style that is being used but I prefer a style that doesn’t limit you to punching only!!!

Hmm, yet again the wannabe's are out in force :). However recruits are taught more than boxing, if you're really interested unarmed combat is one of the things shown by the RM demonstration team.

Would you want a punch off a boxer ? Thought not

(Regular) Boxing teaches discipline and gives you a high level of fitness which is far better than relying on 'hay-baling' techniques against a thug in the street

As far as martial arts go, I did 4 years of Ninjutsu and could not recommend a higher martial art. All based on natural movements, no spinning backfists, no roundhouses, no bollox - simple as that.

More bone snapping, eye gouging techniques than the rest of the martial arts put together. I remember my old fella telling me that the Japanese were the cruellest race on the planet, a year after starting Ninjutsu I could see what he meant

Any martial art should serve you well in a street fight, if you stick to the basics. Don't try anything fancy.

As said before, go for the knees and groin and eyes, depending on the opening.

I took tae kwon do and it serves me well enough. And fast and agile kicks are pretty...

Your all-making good points, and to answer your question, no, I wouldn’t want to be hit by a boxer, haven’t tried Ninjutsu yet is it really that cruel??? But I still favour ache do(think this is now the right spelling) anyone here done that???

It's not in the same league as Japanese WWII torture, but far crueller than any other martial arts. I did a course in Koppojustu (Bone-smashing) which showed bone breaking techniques that when inflicted would either take years to heal or render the person crippled.

That's only one small part of a very big picture though, I always thought of it as very 'peaceful' martial art, time spent on meditation, discipline, theory, weapons training and a whole load more

All good stuff really :P
