Just returned from CTC

Post by HP »

Hi. I just got back from 15 days at Lympstone doing my Phase 1 Alpha Course (Royal Marines Reserve). I'm glad to say I passed the course and earnt my cap comforter. No more Dutch Marines for me! During my time there I had a go at most things. Much of it was aquaintance to the Commando tests. Bottom field 4 times in one week with a passout on the Saturday. That was a new kind of pain! We had a go at the Endurance course and the usual speed march and load carry.

I found Lympstone very hard work. I'm not a naturally fit bloke I am one of those that has to work. As those that have been to Lympstone will agree - at Lympstone you have to work. Maximum effort all the time. The food at Lympstone is great! And the Dhobi girl is hot!

Well done HP lad!

I hope you realise that the Cap Comforter that you earned is Graham Hanifans 'season ticket' to beast you senseless

All I can say is it's going to get a sh*t load harder now, but worth every second of pain once you get through training - keep us posted on all things 'Reserve' eh fella ;)

Well when I say Dutch Marines I mean the RNLMC wearing the Blue and Red beret. It was actually our Sergeant that said 'I want you back here in two weeks looking a little less like Dutchies(RNLMC)....lets see cap comforters'. I do understand ALL the headgear facts. I swear. And my Corps history is actually quite good as I did do a History degree aswell! Dhobi? Marines slang for a wash. No I mean the food in the galley! Great.

I know what dhobi is, I was probably doing dhobi before your dad was out of his nappies. What I asked was what is a dhobi girl. I am still dreading the reply.

Andy, better sit down, just relax a minty, I know this seems like the end of the world, and I agree. It's just that they have a dhobi service at CTC now. "Give him space, undo his tie and collar". They always had the main laundry with the sheets service, but now they have washing machines etc. :o HP probably refers to a young lady who looks after the machines.

I know it's scandalous. If mum had only waited, what would we have experienced?
I console myself with the thought that nowadays they have to do the PRMC. It's just a little consolation, not much.

JR, was it you or Owdun who did the old scrimshaw willys from Pussers Hard, purely for medicinal and decorative purposes, I understand the needs and passions of a horny old bugger like our Owdun. I said I understand them, just wouldn't go near them, mind you 237 years at sea on your first commish must have been a tad trying, especially as you only wanted to get to the Isle of Wight. Press Gang anybody?

Could Bootnecks be 'pressed' into service in those days of yore, or were they civilised and volunteered?

 El Prez,we were all volunteers and sworn men,Mind you Royal sometimes went with the 'Press' Thumping party,Andrew Miller the Press Officer always insisted,Andrew Miller who's name lives on today in the Royal Navy (Andrew) because of the hundreds of men he had pressed into the RN.In those days, and for some four hundred years to come, men were enlisted into the Navy by means of 'prest' money,or the King's Shilling.Once the shilling had been accepted, however unwillingly, the recipient was considered to have entered a contract to serve.Ask Owdun if he still has the King's Shilling,I spent mine soon as I left the recruiting office.Aye JR

Actually my Dad is very old! Yeh, sorry didn't mean to sound patronising just a misunderstanding. The Dhobi girl works at 'The Dhobi' £4 for a bag of washing cleaned and dryed. She is hot! All the lads love her. We even saw her when we went ashore to Exeter on the Saturday. That girl has her own bodyguard service of a hundred or so Recruits every night out!
