Tiffs Course

Post by weapp6 »

Currently serving in HMS Collingwood on the third phase of Tiffs training (the long two year haul).
The ten weeks in Raleigh is apparently being dropped to eight.

Week 1: Basic Introduction to Drill and Phys. First 1.5 mile on the Friday
Week 2: Damage control trianing in the simulator (bloody great fun, came in handy too when the nottingham went down)
Week 3: more drill and some maths and physics tuition (do not worry too much about these the instructors are pretty good)
Week 4: Seamanship. Basic skills, sea survival a bit of knot tying multi choice exam
Week 5: More drill and training to with the mob your first PT Assessment. Failure of this will result in remedials.
Week 6: Military Training. Weapons Handling and a shoot. Scraesdon Fort a fantastic team building weekend where you are run ragged but will have a great laugh.
Week 7: More physics and maths with trade training coming into play more often.
Week 8: You will sit your trade exams and be categorised. More Phys. Guard Selection For passing out parade
Week 9: Not a lot goes on this week. We just had to do presentations and the like.
Week 10: Pass out preps. And the big day. Well worth the hassle (especially if it took you seven months to ge there like me!)

I got injured and spent a long time in Raleigh. I had a great time there but I was glad to be moving on. All I can say is this.

NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU FIND IT THERE HOW TIRED YOU ARE FEELING JUST FOCUS ON THE FACT THAT IT IS ONLY TEN WEEKS OF DISCOMFORT. IT IS DESIGNED TO STRETCH YOU AND TO MAKE YOU WANT TO QUIT BUT DON'T. YOU HAVE A SIX MONTH PERIOD WHEN YOU JOIN THAT YOU CAN LEAVE THE NAVY WITHIN A WEEK OF ASKING TO. YOU WILL BE AT SEA BY THE TIME THAT EXPIRES. WAIT TILL YOU GET ON SHIP BEFORE YOU DECIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't really remember any more timeframe wise but I have only been in for a couple of years and still know people there if you need any more indepth info let me know!

What branch of tiff are you looking at? Where abouts in Scotland are you and What careers office? When are you joining?

AEA is the most difficult to get selected for you will have to be the dogs bollocks to get in as one.
You will also have to sit extra lessons and exams in your spare time.
To give you an idea as to how exclusive it is:

129 join up
9 leave prematurely
120 left
16 go AEA

Start studying because you have to be the best at everything to get that slot. This includes the physical side as well as other courses/classes taken.

Like I said before though all it takes is mental determination and you will get through no bother 10 weeks of hard graft for 22years of fun and games!!!!!!!!!!!

Run is 2.4 km that is roughly 1.5 miles if you are under 25 you have to do it in 11mins 13s
The swim is 2 lengths of a twenty five metre pool in pussers (naval) overalls treading water for three minutes three quarters of the way through
29 push ups to a bleep test tape
40 sit ups to a bleep test tape
300 m in 50s

Not too difficult. But still practice before you go down there!
