Gurkhas
Daily Tory has a photo of Gen Jackson (in dire need of a trim), surrounded by Ghurkas attached to the RIR. Apparently we will let them fight our battles, but won't pay them the same as a Mick, and if they get injured it's "Well tough Johnny Ghurka, go home and lick your wounds, only please don't complain!"

You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Thanks Pasha - good post
I've had the pleasure of working with the boys a couple of times in the Balkans - I'll never enter a chilli eating competition with the again, that's for sure - and with the Demo Coy at Brecon.
Nothing but respect, they deserve equal terms/pay as one of their stripeys pointed out to be during a banyan a couple of years ago!

Damn right.
Politicians are quite happy to pay everyone else lower so they can afford to vote themselves a pay rise above the national average and rate of inflation because they are 'very important' apparently who need at least 3 Mercedes to get them back and forth from their other part-time cushy jobs.

I can help you with this I think. well the gurkhas I think (don't quote me on this) have an sas i was reading in a book i bought not long ago called "the encyclopaedia of the worlds special forces" about the british sas and it said that (I don't have the book in front of me know cos I'm at school so i can't quote it exactly) the gurkha section of the sas were very efective in afghanastan because they blended in with the locals so to answer your question yes i think they do.
oh and by the way can anyone think of a good excuse that i can tell my teacher why i havent finnished my economics home work? i'm all out and this guy is a psycho!

Gurkhas currently serve with 264 Signals and 22 SAS. I met a 22 SAS Gurkha, top bloke, very westernised, excellent English. I think the need to be able to speak really good English to be able to slot into the regiment is as important as being able to pass selection.
There are also some Cdo trained Gurkhas and a lot of Para trained Gurkhas.
