of the Judge Advocate running round in her's and she's

Ginge....In my day Royal Marine Commandos were a minority, the majority of Royal Marines went to sea, when Great Britain had a fleet...I certainly didn't join to get a green beret, Commando training was just a compulsory, small part, of Recruit training in those days, lets face it 6 weeks is not a lot out of 10 months...I for one was PROUD to be a Sea Marine, no doubt just as much as you were proud to serve in a brigade.

When I was on board ship we keep are Green Lids on.
I was just looking at a couple of web sites and not a green
hat in sight. Proud of my Corp, Proud of its history.

Hell I wore the blue beret when serving with the Fleet,and the Green Beret serving with the Brigade and like Sticky Blue was proud to wear both because of the Cap Badge.Aye JR

In Toulon Dec '71 ish the Bandies were issued with Green Hats during rehearsals on the hangar deck, prior to a Cake and Arse Party for the Ships Officers. Royal who had been squatting on the edge of the lift well watching all this burst into a ragged growl of disapproval . Next day, order rescinded Hats G returned.

We were told at start of training:-

Blue n Red beret for basic 'royal marine' style of training 4 mile speedmarch, 4 or 6 mile load carry.

Commando cap for during commando training. Along with 'Royal Marine' Shoulder flashes.

Green lid and the proper royal marine commando flashes once we had done the 30 miler

I`ve said elsewhere, if it`s blue or if it`s green. It`s still Royal Marine.

Gents,
Great to see that the spirit has not left those bootnecks that actualy care about the subject of the Royal Marines Beret.
As the Senior Instructor for the Parade at CTCRM i am constantly battling peoples opinion on the Blue Beret.
Surfice to say that recruits now receive their green beret in full lovats and cap comforter in the falklands hall.
The reason i am told is it seem a backward move having progressed from berets to wear the cap comforter.
the rig is not anywhere in the BR81 (Dress Regulations for the RN/RM)
But its their train set.

OH Si Capon the red patch is infact a poppy to remerber our fallen comrades on a green beret not a Royal Marine Beret both of which i have worn with pride.

Talking of throwing the brown stuff, I seem to remember a certain group of DL`s led by a certain individual who managed to upset an entire audience to a "Blues Brothers" concert a few years ago.

Just read your bit Mick, on nods (sorry traineeeeees) and wearing cap comforters before being presented true green.
My cousins son passed out not so long ago and I was sent the video to watch. The first thing I said, after the commercial to get me to join back up, seeing them on stage, was, WHAT THE FU** ARE THEY WEARING ON THEIR BLOODY HEADS!
I think it belittles the Corps, the transition is from being RM to being RM Commando, not from bloody scruffy bastard in lovats and a sock on their heads. Many's the RM who must be turning in their grave at such a sight.

Time it was made right I think, not only is it a sight, but their hair must be all over when they take the bloody things off. I thought it looked bloody awful.
Thankfully it was followed by a dazzaling performance, be it in the Drill Shed, of Drill executed flawlessly as it should be.
