During training

During training do you train constantly till you get a weekends leave? Or do you follow a sort of train Monday to Saturday. I say till Saturday as it says in the leaflets that you can go to church on Sunday mornings.

P.S Anyone going for a PRMC on the 28th to the 30th of august?

Ah, Sundays during training, yes a lovely opportunity to wander through cornfields, pausing to sniff the flowers, and watch the birds elegantly glide through the air, as the fluffy clouds drift lazily across the brilliant blue sky................. what, what, its alright I am awake now. six o'clock - that means there is only 2 hours to get this place straight, before extra rounds, and with half the room on guard duty, there's not much time. Then I got to get the LSW out of the armoury to give that a clean.


Oh and church parade, yes I'am coming - thank goodness for church, I can get another hours kip in there. I've got my parade boots and brasses to do again after that nice DL threw them across the parade ground. What time does the dhobi shop close tonight?

The highlight of Sundays having to fall in at 4.30 for Corporal to march us over to the TV lounge to watch the Muppets Munum Mu NU NU NU NU Nu NU Munum Mu Nu
At least we got noticed where ever we went.
The first weekend ashore to spend all your hard earned on bucket bags and cleaning crap..... Training team on a good earner...
First Saturday at Sams dressed to kill with a hair cut to be killed for.
First Sunday Off ... Bollocks that was a good one... what do you mean corporal my locker looks like a grenade went off in it It's Sunday!

Imagin, perhaps not, 3 Junior Marines on their first run ashore to down town Deal and the hot spots for 16 year olds!.
Having been sent back to our grotts for various nondiscript clothing errors, we were eventually allowed out of the main gate fully booted and spured, Full blues, Cap, Webbing blankoed and Brasses shining, not to mention boots gleaming.
WE get to the bus stop on prom and climb to the top deck. Having sat down for a short while I get a little tap on the shoulder,on turning round I see a little, and I mean little, old lady, who, in a failing voice says
"I hope you three don't mind me saying, but I think you are all very special and brave................ I have a nephew in the SALVATION ARMY too"

By my time it had eased of abit, jacket and tie, gleaming civvy shoes etc etc. But still being sent back for every non-descript error - the usual:

Clean white hankie pressed to 1/16th G&L.
2p to phone the camp in an emergency (Deal NAAFI always careful not to stock 2p's).
Telephone number of camp.
Piece of string, in case shoe lace broke.
Welts of shoes, absolutely filthy (I still couldn't see the single speck he was referring to - but its still yes Corporal)
Soles of shoes not polished

Anyway, so out the gate we eventually go to sample the delights of Deal, -17, smart as smart can be, full of testosterone, with a pass that alloed us out til 2000, and.... the whole town instantly knows there's fresh meat in town. Everyone else shorts and T shirts.

Never mind next day made up for it - as we were dressed for the beach: Dabs, Shorts White PT, Shirt Sports and some very nice men in a vest with red piping showed us how to enjoy the seafront facilities!

Even though I am now apparently one of the old and bold, Sundays 'off' is sometyhing which seems to continue to allude me.

9 o'clock, the duty Sargeant makes a nice big pot of cocoa for everyone to share, then tucks you in at ten o'clock

God, how I miss my cocoa!!!
