Have just sent an E to G&L suggesting they run an editorial on the web and in particular Civvie Street and how the web effects the Corp now and in the future.
Will they take the hint...mmmmmmm??

I tried it about a year ago and never heard anything back... Ithink they thought I was after publicity for myself...

Lets hope that your approach see's a result.

Well done Ratso. Good idea to E G&L. Be interesting to know what your E contained.
We live in Hope! But understand new Ed is taking over. So unless he is a free-thinking progressive type I think we may wait a while for an article.

Yours Aye

I think I will have to put together a piece and submit it to see if we have a take-up.
Any ideas gladly accepted

Articles in the Globe & Buster are normally unit or RM related. You could send a letter to the editor extolling the virtues of the net and its relationship to the RMs’, or one of the branches on the net could send in a letter explaining the value of their web site to the branch.
You have just missed the closing date for the next submission, so you have 6 weeks to consider what you intend to do.

Thanks for that Brian..
I am putting an article together so I can present something for the Editor to think about.
Something though we should all remember is that the sites like civvie-street and others are RM related so its time not only the G&L looked at them but also the Corps.
At least I have a bit of time to get the grey matter working before deadline.
Thanks Again

I really think it is about time the RM dragged it's self into the 21st century regarding the Internet and took more advantage of it, not only to advertise to new recruits, but also to acknowledge that it's family of past (and serving) members deserve some recognition and not have the feeling that they are 'forgotten'.
Judging by the comments in other areas of this forum, the RMA hasn't done this satisfactorily. No wonder. As I remember it, the RMA was only ever a drinking club with a few good deeds along the way. We know this and I'm sure the Corps knows it too. Anyway, why should they be the only avenue for us to express ourselves. The wealth of experience, of the people on this forum (if used) would do wonders for the Corps in it's promotional efforts.
I bet the US Marines don't have these problems.
Good Luck ratso

Hi RATSO,

You could include how important this form of communication, in general and the Once a Marine site, in particular, is to us ex bootnecks out in the far flung areas of the earth. Only through this format are we able to communicate with, in large numbers of, ex and present bootnecks.

Only through this site did I learn of some young Canadian guys who wish to join the RM, one right on my doorstep, whom I have invited to borrow some of my books and offer what information I can. This surely is a form of recruitment.

I have not entered into the discussion of the RMA and the internet, as I have just recently applied for membership in the HQ roll, thanks to Yorkie Malone. I do, however, see the internet as a beneficial mode of communication for any organization trying to promote itself.

I wish you all the luck with your endevours RATSO, but regardless of the results I will continue to avail myself of the Once a Marine site.

Yours aye

OOPS!!

Lend (instead of borrow). Endeavours (instead of endevours).

I should learn to proof read my stuff prior to submitting it.

I have been on the web for five years as a designer Andy and still can't get things right when it comes to spelling. I think it's more fun to let people try to work it out for themselves.
I aim to put our message to the top of the pile with everyone from the Corps down. It is important that they all keep an eye on us old f**** anyway, but more importantly this is proving to be the best way in the world to put across a message and have replies from all corners.
It also helps when it comes to information, I firmly believe that if it were not for the Internet the Afgan incident would have blow out of all proportion. The truth is that more people can now see the facts and establish feelings across a wider world market than ever before.
This is why the CIA have a whole team working on the WWW full time.
So now it's time we made room for Royal old and new to put across his view. A well designed site made available to all Marines serving to use would be a great thing, as would providing all regs with an e-mail address for them to access messages where ever they are in the world,... wish I had that when on Fearless...
Time has come to send out invites to the party as the yanks would say.....

Lads,

Just to let you know that I am an Officer who has regularly
on this site for about 16 months - under another username.
I know lots of other Officers who regularly look in, but are
probably just too scared to input anything in case you scrotes
pick them up on their spelling and grammar,

Cheers Royal

Greetings bootneck officer,

Having left the Corps as Mne first class I'd just like to say that we were (or are) all bootnecks first and foremost - it's just that some of us are more educated than others. By the way your first sentence is missing a verb. :P All the best Royal.

Welcome aboard. It's a start - one is outed. Well done B.O.

The whole point of this site is for ex/seving ORs/SNCOs/Offrs as "par nobile fratrum", (to quote Horace) to exchange views, raise queries and otherwise ramble on. In addition it is a forum for those with a genuine interest in the Corps, family, friends and potential RMs to get a light insight and express their views.

So come on guys, don't be someone who "rusticus expectat dum defluat amnis", Horace, again! (waits like the yokel for the river to run by). We won't take the nitrogenous waste.

B.O. only query, is what have you been doing on this site for the last 16 months, or is that "a pink file"!

Found it Found it

That missing verb ....... it's ..... used.

Not bad for a DL!!!!!!

Like when I did my Arabic course. Sgt Malone you have worked very hard on this course and sorry to tell yo that you have failed. BUT your English has improved by 100%

As for spelling etc Do not bother going into that section where the "want to be's" are writing to each other. They do not spell correctly they use hieroglyphics and it is just disgusting the way they put letters together with out making correct words.

I'm glad that I left school at 15, but with a very good Sec Mod education. From what I can garther these days "They stay on at school!!!!" I can not see what for.

But young sir! we are all out side now (well some of us are) and as with the RMA and the Salvation Army ........... Come and join us.
