The little ankle wobbles give it away. What we saw was old Ray attempting to walk on cross country skis on a flat bit of hill. We didn`t see him egging-it, skating, herring-boning, we didn`t see him using the most basic of turning techniques never mind telemarks and we actually didn`t see him standing still with any conviction, either.
And one thing Ray does is show off what he can do. Which is fair enough, fire lighting for instance is a piece of piss with a fire starter but with any native friction method it is bloody hard work. Ray would have had shots of him yeeee-harring it like a good un. He cannot ski cross country.
Lofty had a few books out didn`t he Rover? And wasn`t he involved in a police tracking where he shot the target ?
John Wiseman spent twenty-odd years in 22 SAS and is the premier survival expert in the world with the credentials to prove it.
Unlike Ray Mears who just thinks he is.
Google Lofty Wiseman and make your own mind up. Ray Mears has a tv show and runs a "bushcraft" business and that`s about it.

Even a trip up the Amazon (thats the river, before you start) with Lenny Henry. Loftys 'off camera' remarks are before the days of PC, so doubt we will see any re-runs.

Lofty once had a small Lotus on which the brake cable broke.
No problem. A klepper rudder cable and a pair of pliers, foot brake becomes a hand brake.

Re Bear Grills: A bit hyperactive for my liking and a bit too public school boy "jolly hockey sticks", too. That kind of thing is strictly for the ignorant masses who know no better.

That Ausie "Bush Tucker Man", Les Hiddins, (http://www.australiantelevision.net/btm.html), was entertaining to watch. I like the historical spin where he'd relate a story of real survival (or lack thereof) and then sets to showing how they would have fared "if only they'd known...". Haven't seen him on the box for a while.

The history of attempts by the Ling, SOE, etc to shut down Vemork is well documented. Many tragic stories, perhaps the torturing to death of badly wounded REs being the most tragic.
Knut Haukeld used to give a very stirring presentation ref his participation in the Operation by the way Trog .
Would Herman have ever made a thermo nuclear device in time? Not even in the realms of fantasy.
But he believed we thought he could and that tied down many thousands of troops who could have influenced outcomes in France.

I think he`s a cnut.
He told lies about a good man who is not here to answer his lies. He was decorated and Vince was not. Mike Asher re-visited the locations in Mcnab`s book and came to a very different conclusion to the one that you propose. SSM Pete R has a different opinion as well. But the real story eventually came out when Kiwi finally won the legal arguments and published his account. He thinks Mcnab`s a cult and he was there. Mike Coburn went through years of legal wrangling to be able to publish his version and set the record straight for Vince`s parents.
And they deffo don`t think he`s a decent bloke.
