A Quick ? From Me The New Guy
Hi Everyone. I Am Currently Training To Join The Marines, I Have Not Yet Signed Up. But Will Do Soon. Can't Wait. Just A Quick Question, I Am Not A Very Good Swimmer. Can Anyone Please Tell What Sort Of Swimming Abilities You Need, And Also What Swimming Test There Is??? Thanks. Any Information On Swimming In The Marines Would Be A Great Help. Thanks Again. X
hello there. im new to this site but have been on its sister site (MFAT) for a short while. i belive, but correct me if im wrong, that it is not nececery to be able to swim when you go down for PRMC... but that said it is advise, you don't have to be an olimpic swimmer to join and i belive the test is to jump into the water and swim a length. But im not a hundred percent shure on that one.

Liam,
it's more of a look at your swimming technique rather than a test in the prmc. There was a guy that couldn't swim a stroke on my prmc and he still passed. This being said, he was exceptional at all the other tests, if your borderline on the other tests and you can't swim they'll probably ask you to come back when you can.
My careers officer didn't have none of the 2 chances at the prmc, one chance and if you don't pass it's bye bye. So it could be the difference between joining and not.
So it's a bit more tricky than a definite yes or no, but it's a full length of the pool and climb out at the end.

Liam. just try your very best. The Corps want people who give 100%, but that doesn't mean they excel at everything. Just do your very best mate and good luck with it. You know your weakness, so just work at improving it.Liam13 wrote:Hi Everyone. I Am Currently Training To Join The Marines, I Have Not Yet Signed Up. But Will Do Soon. Can't Wait. You have to pass the battle swimming test which is week 6 (can't remember though) this involves getting into cs95s, webbing and rifle. You will then jump off the high board swim out aout 10 metres and back again where you pass your rifle and webbing to your oppo whilst treading water, finally you just tread water for an additional 2 mins.
If you fail it you just do it again at a later date, I'll be week 16 on monday and there's a lad in my troop who hasn't passed yet so it can't be considered that much of a big deal.
You should be working on your swimming anyway, it seems like you have some time, just because it is embarrasing rocking up to RT and splashing around like a mincer - one weak swimmer in my troop wrapped on a swim and the PTI told him to carry on until he started to drown, I don't need to tell you what happened when he refused- do you want that to be you?
