NEED INFO ON ASop PLEASE!!

Post by chris_UK »

Hi Everyone,

I've passed all of the current interviews/tests and and now ready for my offer of service interview to see me fit to join the RAF on the 17th Jan 2007 :D I've overcome alot to get this far as I failed my medical earlier on this year.... for being.... basically to fat!! My BMI was 31! The RAF medical standards state that it has to be thirty or under! So, Obviosuly, I was distraught! So I decided the only thing to do.... was to get active! and after a sucessful course of healthy eating and vigurous excersise....... I re-took my medical and passed with flying colours.... my BMI now being 24.1! In total I lost 20.3kg's!! Hard Work!

Further to the point I was wondering if any of you guys could help me a little by telling me what to expect at my offer of servive interview so I'm fully prepared! I've got alot of info on the career briefing of an ASop.... I was just wondering if theres anything vital.. or wouldn't do my harm in knowing!

I'd really appreciate to hear from anyone who has any suggestions..... Thanks for reading..... Regards.... Chris

Hey Mike,

Nice 2 hear from you.... congrats aswell 4 joining the RAF! Great career ahead of ye! ASop is the abreviation 4 an Aerospace Systems Operator! They come under Air Operations Support I think!!

I'm trying to swat up on all areas of an ASop so what I've done is ask 4 a Trade Information Leaflet of an aerospace systems operator which you will be able to attain from your local AFCO! Then I've gone through it..... and where there is something in there that i can expand upon.... for ex........ "You will be working on our defensive aircratfs" I've gone and looked at the defensive aircrafts which I will be using..... which are... The Sentry... which is based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire..... and the Tornado F3! So do you see what I'm doing.... just basically expanding on the trade info leaflet to swat up as best as I can.... I don't think it's a bad way to prepare!!

Talk 2 you soon man, take it easy..... Chris

hey guys well done!
i passed out not so long ago... just some fresh info...

your offer of service is not ,uch to worry about, its more of a re cap of everything they have asked to to make sure you havnt changed your mind, u should also get a little certificate too.

oh and trust me you will lose a hell of a lot of weight when u start your trainin, a little tip, just do some outdoor runs up hills and stuff.... you do alot of pt, and forget trouser bungees you arnt aloud to use them anymore... something about cutting circulation off at your feet... hope this helps!

for the fitness test you will need to do 49 press ups minimum, trust me on that one.

Always go over the top, it could be what gives you the position, if they have one place and two people with exact same chance except one did more press-ups then it's the guy with the arms who wins.

I'd love to know a bit more about the press ups. I struggle with the "man" ones at the best of times. :multi:

I struggle with any type of pressup at any time. Which is something I'm trying so so hard to work on!

Funny though, because I find everything else ok. Maybe I have deformed arms...hmmm...*studies arms*...

......Nope. I must just be a bit of a pressup retard.

Lol my dads side of the family suffer from unusually long arms, think I might have inherited that! I just feel like it's such a challenge!!! How many sit ups are you aiming for in a minute??

I know i'm really unfit at the moment, even though my job requires an annual fitness test, the standard of personal fitness is awful!! I SO need to improve!!!
