Waterproofing A Bergan
Alright lads, just a quick question really. What is the best way to water proof a bergan? You see i just passed the PRMC for the RMR, and i've done the induction weekend and had all my kit issued. The first weekend out in the field is coming up and we've been told to waterproof our bergans, bearing in mind we are not allowed to go out and buy Gucci canoe bags, we have to find a way of doing it. I've been told freezer bags might do the trick? Any input would be greatly appreciated guys, as i dont wana have dripping wet clothes after a quick showery spell.
Also the so called 'water proof' bags we were issued are about as waterproof as a teabag
and we were told not to use them as our kit will get soaked. Cheers!

Get yourself down to your nearest outward bound/survival store and buy some waterproof bags. They can range in price from a couple of quid to rucks depending on their weight and durability. Just make sure they are neutral in colour (DPM, Green, Brown or even clear plastic) as the dayglo Yellow/Red ones tend to Stand out in the field.
But if your a tight wad then go to your nearest frozen food centre and buy some of those heavy duty placky clip sealed freezer bags (they come in various sizes). They won't last forever but they are a lot better than the old black dustbin liners used by a lot of us when we were in the Corp.
