Medics + Para's

Post by James2006 »

Hi, have a couple of questions about medics serving in Para's. Hope you don't mind answering them.

1. Do they serve at platoon or company level?
2. Are they fully trained Para's?
3. Is it a matter of getting time up before applying for Para's or is there another way about it?

Also can you join Para's if you have a colour deficiency?

Thanks for your help.

Hi mate, if by "colour deficiency" you mean your colour blind then you'll never even pass RSC that's one of the things they check in the medical and I think it's an automatic fail if your colour blind.

I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

Come to America and join our Army, color blindness isn't a big deal for us unless you are wanting to be in aviation, electronics or something.

No, I think they'll let you sign up for 4 years max, 2 years minimum, at the end of which re-up is possible though less likely...

To Answer the first question, you have trained medics at every level from section through to battalion, the low level guys are given a little more than first aid training which every soldier does ie they are trained in things like IV's and maybe basic patching up. Platoon medics are pretty much the same just more experienced. Company medics tend to be Reg but part of the Battalion Medical Team attached to the company and their training is quiet comprehensive (basic surgery etc etc) the main Battalion guys are RMC and are trained even higher!!!

As for colour deficirncy, do you mean you're aneamic or colour blind? the latter you wont even get in the forces!!

Hope this helps

excuse the spelling.

i am colour blind, red and green, believe it or not, it depends on what deficiency of colour blindness you are, that was early 80 anyway, only time it ever bothered me was when i was pissed and was unsure of the snooker balls, one time in the states the figure 11s were just plain green, couldnt see a thing, but a good set of fire control orders, and the tracer from the gpmg, and hey bobs your uncle. dont know what the score is now ?
