Just a thought

Post by Nickosx »

I had my thinking cap on today and the idea that i had was something along the lines of...

A sticky thread perhaps detailing the history of military forums as a website and the ethos of the site. Perhaps also in this thread, the moderators/ listeners could post a little bio about themselves. This would let new users know the score straight away about the site and its users without having to search through the hundreds of past threads, and those who come here for PTSD reasons can find who/(and know who) they can/are talking to. This may also save new users getting a little slap on the wrist from 'arry ;)

As a new (ish) user myself I thought it would be nice to know a little more about the site itself.

If I've got my thinking cap on backwards, coat at ready

Dear Nick

Coat on, doors open, taxi meter running

We have, and those before me and the current mods, have tried the sticky route before to some degree. On both sites. Not many people read them to be fair and got straight to the new posts highlights. Some read through obviously but would it make a difference?

99% of members are good eggs, but when a prong appears I for one go to town on them, its abit of fun! SOme people like the PM route for warning people who are out of line, but I find a public note to a member for a minor ballsup, or a public slating for a prong serves two purposes.

1- it shows the person/others the stuff we dont like and isnt welcome and either sends them on their way or tells them to alter their approach
2- Enables people with the forces humour to display it

Everyone is welcome, most stuff is tolerated, but this is a miltary forums for use by ex/serving/soon to bes/interested. Soontobes and interested are directed to MFAT as its more suitable, although reading this side is welcome and the old and bold pop over to MFAT to offer advice. This side is more for ex and serving to speak to each other.

As a mod we are also responsible for not letting people multi post the same thing in different areas or direct posts to more suitable areas. Things like where do bullets go etc are tollerated because basically its bone!

Ah well ne' mind.

Although my post wasnt really trying to make a point about dealing with 'prongs' as i believe there is already a sticky that covers this quite well but more about the history/ethos and bio's of mods/listeners as i thought this would be nice for new users to read to get the general 'jist' of the attitudes and types of people here. Apologies if it did sound like a 'deal with walters' thread.
