Just swanning around in a ship must be better than some of the postings you can get in the Army

Just seen this, so sorry for the delay, but (twoleftfeet) have you seen the recent changes in the structure of the Army's system re: MOs? Basically, they are angling towards the RMOs being fully qualified GPs, and so as an SHO equivalent you would not be based with a regiment in your 3 years 'fun time' before you go back to hospital training. This is all fallout from clinical governance.

This may not bother you if you are angling towards being a general duties MO, but if you are considering the fraternistic lifestyle that goes with being attached to a specific regt then this will have bearing on your choice. The RN for the foreseeable future are not insisting that deployed MOs are qualified GPs, so you will (hopefully) be deployed with a ship's company as an SHO.
All the associated social/professional aspects that come along with being the MO to a fixed group of men & women thus follow.

Sorry for any typos if present and the poor structure, writing in a rush cos I've gotta be off soon!

How's it going Adrian? Good to hear from you.

All MOs qualified GPs?? That's going to put a load of people off.
