Dont worry about changing your trade choice, becuase if or when you decide to go for a trade and sign the contract youll be doing it for 9 years. The guys at the AFCO wont get annoyed or shout or anything, if anything it shows your thinking about your future and they will respect you for it. Also you can still go on the PGAC for the Regt and still not be held to applying for that trade. But, just incase you didnt know, dont go gunner if you think you can transfer out once your in, into another trade. Because you cant. But also as dooher said, your in the very early stage of your application, so there wont be a prob. Just go to your AFCO and explain the situation. Good luck matey
Thanks guys!
The job i was concidering was "Painter & Finisher" which is the painting of aircraft and vehicles, things like that. Anyone here have any info on what the job is like? The thing that really changed my mind from the regiment to this job is: 1) i didnt know they had this!! 2) im very interested in aircraft and this job is to do with aircraft so...
Maby i should start another topic with the painter & finisher in the topic title....?

On the other hand, if you're interested in aircraft, why not try flying in one? I can personally recommend the Aircrew role!

Thanks for the advice.
After posting that i went to the AFCO and talked to the guys there, having no qualifications (long story) it limits me to what jobs i can do, aircrew would be great but with no qualifications and glasses for astigmatism in my eyes its a no-no
.
I was going to go for flight ops assistant but they arent taking anyone for months yet so im more likely going to go for the painter post...
A friend in the RAF told me that once your in you can re-train... is this correct? he sugested just going in as painter, after a few years as painter (over those years getting a few qualifications) and then apply to re-train as "weapon systems operator (crewman)" or something. Possible?
Thanks

Changing jobs
Just had my final interview and got accepted. They told me that you cant change jobs once you are in.
They also said that 1400 people will join the RAF this year but 100,000 have applied. Wouldn't hold your breath mate.
Good luck anyway

1400 will join this year? That's what they tell everyone! There'll be at least 500 new officers this year, and 120 new aircrew, doesn't leave much space for the junior ranks if they're telling the truth does it? Think whoever told you that was exaggerating slightly...
But then apparently 64% of statistics are made up....
