Ok, just a few books I think are well worth a read:
The Cage, by Thomas Abraham. Basically the story of a Brit turned US army officer and his time in Vietnam. Pretty good stuff.
The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer: Story of a German soldier during the russian campaigns of the second world war. Interesting to look at things from a different perspective.
Anyway thats my geeky recommendation bit over. Let me know if anyone's read any of these as I would like to hear what you thought.

have you read eye of the storm by peter ratcliffe? its an autobiography about a man who koins the paras, he is involved in bloody sunday, then joins the SAS and serves as RSM in the gulf war, it is pretty thrilling as the author rips into Chris Ryan and Andy McNab
