Surely it should be entirly down to the person. If someone is the most outstanding shot ever, but wears glasses, I doupt they will refuse him the oppurtunity of sniper.

Hmmmmmm
Good shots can be found with perfect eye sight, people with good eyesight can be trained to shoot. I guess that p's on that bonfire.

I think I remember hearing that you can be short sighted to a point but there is a boundary if you want to be a sniper and I think your vision has to be within this boundary. Im not sure of the actual figures you need but ill have a go at finding out. I think it may be a disadvantage being short sighted though as if your just as good as someone who has 6/6 vision who do you think will get the nod? It's not just about the being an accurate shot though it is important its also about cam concealment and movement as well as other things on which im not sure of!!!

Imagine if you're in a concealed position, and then the sun reflects off your specs....

Like I said, I almost always go out without my glasses. I can see fine, its just detail like people's faces at a distance and writing at a distance and stuff like that. Anyway I'd probably use contacts instead of glasses anyway.

I'll try and hunt out my prescription, to check whether I come within the boundary!

and writing at a distance
I know I shouldn't I know it's silly and way off thread, but..........

I've always found distance writing beyond arms length absolutely impossible.

Maybe there's a special extendable pencil Prez?

I don't mean to be harsh, but the eyesight discussion has come up on other threads. If you need contacts, what happens if your team gets woken up in the middle of the night and has to be somewhere in a hurry? Do they wait for you to get your contacts in, or go without you?
Just a thought...
:(

It's not an issue for every role in the forces, but it definitely is for some.

Can't you just see it, you are lying there waiting to take a shot and your glasses mist over.

I think this thread has come to an obvious hault. If you've had any type of military training you know that spec's come up in why things are seen. My mate wears contacts in the field and never takes them out. This has worked for him so far. I also think that the sniper course has a requirement for people with perfect vision.

But don't they now issue those little windscreen wipers?

Seriously, though, Ghost.. If you've never been in military training before, how do you even know you're a good shot? Pass your training before thinking of doing a specialist role. You don't know what your strengths are going to be until you get a bit of experience.

Anybody know if officers get the option to do their sniper course? I know its probably only NCO's but i'd like to have a crack at it.

Never fear rambo i can multitask.

On a serious not though, can officers put in to go on the sniper course, and how long does it last if you get on to it?
I've been told that if an officer has his eye down the barrell of a gun something is going wrong, but i suppose there'll be bigger problems thanthat if i get a map in my hands eh.

Will i think you'll have to wait and find out, maybe thinking about doing a snipers course before you've even done your basic training is a bit out of reach. Once you pass out im sure you'd be able to go on the course.
