Chris (Buster) Brown

Post by ratso »

Just Received the below e-mail earlier tonight on behalf of the FVF, another sad day. Will try to help where poss with supporting the family. I know many out there will have know Buster so I will keep you up dated with arrangements from Tony.

"Last week a good friend of mine. Chris (Buster) Brown took his own life, he shot himself with a pistol brought back from the Falklands. He was an ex Royal Marine having joined in 1968 and leaving shortly after the Falklands War. He suffered from PTSD for years and was on anti depressants for most of the time. He went through many of the lows associated with the illness. Drinking And gambling among them. Unfortunately he leaves a wife and two teenagers in serious financial debt with no way of even paying for a funeral. It is so sad that another ex Serviceman joins the long list of suicides.
If there is anyway that his family can receive help from this or any other organisation please E-mail me and I will pass you their details. His wife Sue has given her permission for details to be forwarded.
Thankyou for any assistance that you can offer.

Tony Bambrough (Ex Royal) "

We`ve said it before, how there have been more suicides amongst F.I.Veterans, than deaths during the conflict. Colin, please post an address in the Bunker for contributions mate.
For every victim.....
RIP Buster

In addition Harry, I would hope that some of the money we raised during Yomp30 could be allocated to Chris Brown's family at this awful time.

I can't imagine a better use, other than helping to prevent these tragedies.

Aye, Derek

Never really been any good with words but my sorrows go out to all the family. This is something I feel strongly about and would like to get involved with service support groups, can anyone recommend a particular group?

I worked with Buster for two years and we became good friends. We lost contact for twenty years and two years ago got back in touch through Tony's site.
I was chuffed that he had got married and had a family because he always thought he would stay a bachelor. He metioned his problems a few times to me but said he was coping with them.
I'm gutted that this intelligent and lively character should end his life in this fashion.
Ratso as Harry said please post an address in The Bunker when you get it
so we can make a contribution to help his family.
Sincerest condolences to Sue and their girls.

2000 Wed, just left a message for Colin, I agree with the idea that some of last years Yomp money should be utilised to help Mrs Brown.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Just had a chat with Colin. The FVF have been approached, and agreed in principle to provide the funeral expenses, approx £1000.
SSAFA have been contacted to assist Mrs Brown.
More info later.

Spoke at length to Busters wife Sue today, as expected his son is taking it really bad as he was living with his dad and found him. His daughter has not come to terms with the loss yet. I will let you know Funeral arrangements as soon as we have them.

I have checked the Yomp account and it has a few hundred left in it from last year which was to be for contingencies. Well this is one of those so it will be going to the family. If you wish to send money then please send it to myself made out to Yomp 30 then it can be handed over in one cheque.

The FVF has agreed to pay for the Funeral costs and will look to get this cost out of the South Atlantic Fund. We are also sorting out with Sue all her finances and will look to get a case worker to sort out help with this side.

To help after the Funeral we are approching the RN & RM Childrens Fund for money to get the family away on a holiday so they can hopefully come to terms with this tragic loss.

Address for contributions.
