Unless you carry a GPMG or are in a FIBUA or CQB environment there is not much need for you to carry a 'side arm.' It's not 'Call of Duty'. The issued 'side arm' nowadays is a Sig Sauer P226 - for all the spotters out there.

The answer to your question is as many as you can.

You do quite alot of swimming in phase 1 of training so it's up to you really if you want to be a biff and scrape through every phys session in the pool.

It may not be a test at first but it soon becomes one when you do the battle swimming test ...

Just spray them up mate, the shines practically the same but alot less hassle as it takes hours to layer them up and you'll probably get some nobber stand on your foot and scuff them.

I tried this on the Para section this morning though haven't exactly been innundated so far.
