Heard today that former Cpl Bob Parkes has died of cancer.
I knew Bob for many years as he was a chef in HQ&Sigs and used to do our summer do's. It never ceased to amaze us how far he could stretch the budget.!! (Usually a tenner!).
Bob was, I believe, a M.P. before he joined the chefs branch, perhaps thats why he looked after us so well!
Bob has worked for Devon and Cornwall Police for many years, in the stores at HQ, but more importantly on our mobile canteen.
Whatever the weather, or time of day Bob has turned out, at short notice and provided top scran from his mobile canteen, often better than in the main galley at hq!
Dispite his illness he still turned out, and was always cheerful. I never once saw him down. Always greeting me with a "Hi Sully" and a wet and bun!!!
I for one will miss him and his cheery smile.
Take it steady Bob, you've earned your rest!

Yes I knew Bob due to my visits to the police at Middlemoor and also to see him with his "van" in Tavistock.
I found out cos last night I went for a pint next door and Paul Demery told me he had been to the funeral as Bob was a squaddie....
I was very surprised about it, although I'd not seen him for a couple of years.
See ya Bob.... Yorkie
