Ronald Wilson Reagan
Not going to harp on about his death.I thought he was a good president.
I think Nancy showed courage during the funeral.
Had to be tough on her.
Good of Lady Thatcher to attend, they were good friends.
Wholley.

I agree with you Wholly. I'm not sure I would have the strength that Nancy Reagan displayed today.
And yes, God bless Margaret Thatcher for coming. I have always had a tremendous respect for her.
Being a homemaker, I was able to watch all the events of the day. It came as a comfort to know that my county has a few beautiful traditions that it upholds. Today's funeral procession was one of them.

Must say that your country did your former President proud, giving him a very fitting and touching ceremony.
Mrs. Frank, I don't think I could have been as strong as Nancy Reagan either. Reckon i'd have gone to pieces.
The 3 men who did the speeches said some very fine things.
Ronald Reagan was obviously a very much loved and respected person.

Sticky, they don't just know how to do a ceremony, they know how to honour a President who did so much for his country.
I can't remember a similar person over here since Winston Churchill. Maggie maybe, but Reagan, he was something special. Possibly because he was an "ordinary" person who embodied the feelings of the ordinary American. Good Man!!

Now that SB has made the analogy,
I remember watching Sir Winston Spencer Churchill's funeral with my father.First time I ever saw him tear up.I was a young crumb snatcher at the time but the sight of all the Household Regiments plus the massed bands had a lasting effect on me.I can still feel the thud of the bass drums
in my heart.
God rest them both, they were very much alike.
Wholley.

Reagan was your every american man, that's probably his most endearing quality.
The saddest thing about the whole situation is that because of his Alzheimers he couldn't remember anything that he had done in his life, and that's a real shame considering how eventful a life it was.
Cheers, and Rest In Peace.

Ronald Reagan 1911-2004
You bet he was, CB. I remember visiting Washington in 1987 when I was only 13 and you could almost feel the energy in the air.A good man. Put an end to the cold war thus making the world a better place for all our children. Dont make 'em like that anymore. RIP.
I also remember trying to get to Cape Canaveral to watch Challenger blast off for the first time in 1983. My parents and I had given up hope when traffic suddenly stopped dead on a three-lane interstate, ignitions went off and everyone got out of their cars to watch her climb. The Space Shuttle was the second triumph of America in the Space Race, makes it all pretty boring now by comparison.
Amercica had lost its spark after Vietnam, and one would argue for 17 years after JFK's death, Ronald Reagan was the man who came on like a firestorm and made things exciting again.
I take back what I've said about no politician having charisma and je ne sais quoi since John F. Kennedy.
Remember when 400+ Americans were held hostage by student extremists in Tehran in 1979-81? Reagan secured their release by simply arriving in the Oval Office. The AK knew Ronnie would attack with vigour and folded, this after playing Carter like a fiddle.
Ronald Reagan, among others, stood down the Soviet Union and won the Cold War, feels like we've lost the peace these days doesn't it?
"Poor Ike, it won't be a bit like the Army. He'll find it very frustrating. He'll sit here and he'll say, 'Do this! Do that!' And nothing will happen."

One of his key strengths was his ability to be a genuinely nice person, he actually cared about the consequences of his actions which is a good thing when you are the most powerful man in the world!!Ronald Reagan, among others, stood down the Soviet Union and won the Cold War, feels like we've lost the peace these days doesn't it?
You are right DF2 can you imagine feeling the peace again? I guess we face a different type of enemy today, one that has no feeling at all for human life and will stop at nothing to destroy us. Lets hope that those in charge will take some lesson from RR. Sadly I cannot see the light at this time, however I think that our countries are always going to fight side by side for what we have to protect which compared to some places in this world is very privileged, and a right to bring up our children black, white, muslim or christian in a safe and secure world.
