Finding out about your family

Post by Pringle »

Hey everyone

Is there a website or a place i can go to to find out about my great uncle (I think thats right) who fought in the second world war?

I have the address of the Army Personnel Centre, but is there anywhere online?

Thanks
Tom

If your great uncle died in WWII, try

http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx

I am sure I have seen a thread on this subject before .... try searching this site, if not try Google.com with anything you know about him. Also if you know in which service / unit he served in, try that as a search item.

There must be oodles of people who have tried to find out about relatives.

I tried this on Google

genealogy armed forces uk

and came up with an excess of hits

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply but he didn't die during the war, he was sent home from Belgium after getting carbon monoxide poisoning and then returned to the war with the 8th Army in north africa. Where he was wounded by shrapnel and sent home again. He then died in the 1960's at some point i think.

Thanks again
Tom

The National Archives (used to be the Public Records Office) in Kew, London will be of use to you. Lots of information there. If it difficult for you to get, there are researchers who will search for you (for a small fee).
Not sure of the website address, but good luck! :D
