help withWW2 service record

Post by smnlvr »

Hi

I'm looking for some help with my grandfather's WW2 service record.

A bit of background...he had been serving with the Royal Artillery since before the war, with the 23rd Medium Battery in 1931. Between 1932 and 1938 he was in India serving as a gunner and a driver, first with the 27th Medium Battery in 1932, then 1st Field Brigade in 1933, 11th Battery 1st Field Brigade in 1935.

In 1936 he was appointed S/UP/L/Bdr, I guess L/Bdr is Lance Bombardier, and UP means unpaid, what is the "S"?

Between 39 and 44 he was in Britain and in 1941 he achieved the rank of War Substantive Sergeant.

In June 1944 he was posted to 3rd Reserve Regiment RA (Field) - I can't find any information about this unit, what division it was in, where they were based, etc

In October 1944 he was "POSTED DRAFT REPPJ" = what does REPPJ mean?

His record shows he "Disembarked NWE" 15/10/44 via 54 RHU - regimental/reinforcement holding unit, then to 49 RHU 19/10/44 - any idea where he was?

He was posted to the 186th Field Regiment on the 19th November, as the 52nd (Lowand) Division were clearing Walcheren Island.

I'd like to find out where he might have been / what he might have been doing between 19th October and 19th November.
