Greetings from across the big pond. I am an accumulator of curiosities which often have well hidden tales to tell. Lt. Mcpherson's brown burlap covered suitcase made it's way to New Jersey through Colorado. There's a small name and address written inside by a Colorado person. This search wasn't fruitful.
Lt Mcpherson's name is boldly stenciled in white on the bottom and one end. The word CABIN is also stenciled on the bottom. Also after 1st Lt. is 0-384047. I could not identify this as a service number. The suitcase appears to be WW1 era from a feww others I've seen on Ebay, England and Australia. Any ideas about Lt. Mcpherson's military service, home or? Thanks.

You could try some of the Ancestry Web sites that also carry the military Records

Re: 1st Lt. Donald Mcpherson's Suitcase.
Thanks. This would be the logical step if I had a better place to begin. The number shown with the Lt's name does not seem to conform with service number structures in any branch of service in the UK, Canada, or the US. It is 0-384047. Could he have been a 1st Lt. on a Scottish passenger cruise ship?

My Uncle would join up for a five year term in the Army and every time he got his wife pregnant he would rejoin. I have found that he had five different numbers over the years and five different sets of records so far.

OK, I give up. Little information on Royal Navy service numbers turned up for me. This is especially true for officers. The number on this suitcase represents something related to Lt. Mcpherson. This great $5.00 purchase has generated plenty of key strokes, but little more. Thanks, for your efforts.
