Cold water after exercise

So I've been looking at the benefits of showering/bathing in cold water, has anyone had any experiences with taking a cold bath/shower after theyve exercised?

After a long march and a lot of heavy work in quite high temperatures I threw my self into a lake to cool off, the lake was freezing and the shock of it knocked the wind out of me. So I would advise that to take the middle path and cool down slowly
