Bomb Disposal questions

Post by Blake Smith »

Hello,

If (I'm aboot 99% certain EOD is what I want to do) I was to choose a career in bomb disposal with the Royal Engineers, would chosing such a profession speed up the whole process of given dates for BARB test, medical and the ADSC?

And this question is probably a long shot, but I'm going to ask it anyway;

When I complete basic and EOD training that follws, how soon after will I ship out to Afghanistan?

Ta muchly.

Hey Matey!!

It really wouldnt speed up anything...It all depends on your AFCO/ACIO, How many applicants etc...plus theres a medical questionaire what needs to be filled in by your doctor which depending on your doctor could take a while and AFCO cant do anything physical (ADSC/Pre-ADSC) till you have been medically cleared and you wont have any interviews either.

Regards to being sent to Afghanistan...that all depends if at the end of your training theres a tour coming up but as a general rule of thumb...most units are on back to back tours so iv been told.

Hope this helps

First of all you need to complete your Basic Training, then after that you need to be trained in bomb disposal and this could take quite a while, not unless you fancy taking on this work with out proper training. There again they might find that you are not suited for this work.

Thanks for the replies, Fellas.

I'm going to give the Norwich careers office a bell on Monday and apply for EOD - Fingers crossed the process doesn't take too long.
