Changing cap badge after selection ?

Post by TallBlackDude »

Hi, basically i went through and passed selection applying for 3rd Mercian but have now rethought and have decided that i want to join the paras instead, im going to AFC Harrogate on Sept 6 and i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing, would it benefit me by telling the AFCO about my decision ? and what are the chances of them actually letting me swap cap badges ?

Thanks.

Tell your recruiter that you want to change capbadges and he is the one who will make it happen.
From what I have been told about Harrogate it is not too hard to change capbadges but your AFCO are the only ones who will have the definete answer.

it may also depend on your selection results,
you may have done enough for the mercians but might not come up to the standard for a para recruit. Why the change of mind? Apart from the obvious of not wanting to be second best

Well beins as im only a junior a run time of 10:17 (shot up alot due to injury just before selection  ), 7 heaves and an overall B grade are pretty good I think :-?

If you have the requirements to get into your choosen job then you will be able to change, but.. its a very long process, when i failed selection the first time i was told i can go into the infantry then change my cap badge but it could take up to a year to make the changes..
So i'd advise you to apply for the regiment you want to stay in.

Ring your afco up it shouldnt be too much of a problem . Since your going to harrogate your time and everything else seems to be ok.
Bareing in mind you WILL have to to wait until january or maybe next september for spaes in harrogate for para's.
I did selection about 4 months ago now . and i have to wait till january for my intake due not them not having enough space in sep for para's this is due to them only been able to take a set number of cap badgers per year .
Ah at least im deffo in for january though . hope its worth the wait ;)
