if i join the royal artillery and join 29 commando can you specialise within the battery...i.e mechanics , artillery, forward observers?

Have a look here mate.

By the looks of it they only have 105mm Light Guns and Fire Support teams so don't think there are any other areas available.

No problem mate, sounds like the best way to go about it as they will know 100% I would have thought. If you go straight Royal Artillery then in some of there jobs you will learn how to maintain there systems and vehicles and also they have things like Observers etc.pompeyandy wrote:cheers buddy, yeah just been looking on that site...its all a bit vague though, think a trip to my local AFCO is in order.
thinking about it though they dont need mechanics or trades as that'll be down to REME etc

AS with 59 Cdo you specialise first sort of then join the commando
REME do mechanics
RAMC do medics
Royal Sigs do signals although the RA do have a signal trade too I believe
You can jump out of planes with 29 too and then theres 148 down at Poole which hide in hedges on cliff tops and call in the big guns from ships....
..and yes 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery do specialise in Artillery, its in the name as a clue.
Based in Plymouth down the Hoe in the Citadel, a short walk from the Barbican and the Union Street, good draft.
Theres a beat up course prior to the AACC and then you get drafted (posted) to a battery.
As with 59 thy concentrate alot more on the soldiering side of life in comparison to a normal RA unit, nature of the beast.
In a nutshell the commando element is seen as a specialization within the artillery as to the other way round really. Theres also the airborne side of life too, just jump after the guns or it may land on you and give you a headache.

I was thinking earlier after reading Mikes post in the RM section......
In nearly six years I have been on this forum I have hardly ever changed the way in which I post, I weeed my self on a daily basis reading the posts here and loved the crack.
Now when I post complete and utter mongelods snip at me like tulip polisher above.
I have always approached posting as if it was the naafi amongst military types who would get the humour and have a laugh.
Sadly now people just dont get it at all, well apart from some who have or who are serving.
Maybe thats the problem, wannabes and walters are not getting the one thing we all miss when we leave the forces, the crack.
My tongue is always fully in cheek and when I have stepped over the line for no reason I have apologised and edited.
So maybe the forums are now different.
Or maybe new people joining in should shut the fark up if they have issues and seek life elsewhere so they dont get easily offended.
Or..I should change....................lololol as farking if!
So Addz poke it!
