40, 42 or 45 ?

Post by bullzie »

Hey

Just wanted to ask if where you live or where your family are in the UK has any influence on which Commando Unit you go to after RT.
As I live just outside Plymouth and my family are there would it mean I'm more likely to go to 40 or 42, or do you just go where you're told.

Cheers

As far as I'm aware mate, you can state a preference, but ultimately it comes down to where you are most needed I think.

I know a lad that lives in the Taunton area but on passing out was drafted to 45 Comando up north.

Hope that helps.
- If you overtrained, it means that you didn't train hard enough to handle that level of training

- Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did

Well for us we stated our first commando unit preference , and more then likely got that choice but alot of the time depends on where the corp needs you. A friend of mine picked 40 but ended up at FPGRM just depends where they need you.

If you get assigned to FPGRM, can you request a transfer ? to 40 42 or 45, and vice versa?

You can request a transfer ...doesn't mean you will get it . The above mentioned oppo of mine got pretty threaders with FPG and requested a transfer to Stonehouse as he is about to undertake the heavy weapons course. He is doing a month at a pongo base .... I think as Lympstone are on leave at the start of his course.

There's been in the past whole troops that have all gone to FPG.

I know a lad who requested 42 lives in Weymouth and got 45, so you pretty much go where you're told, however, a lot of people do get their first choice.

You used to get a "DRAFTING PREFERENCE" form a few weeks before you left training back in the mists of time but even then you tended to go to the unit that needed blokes the most.

Whenever it's possible the Drafting office will try to give you your first choice but it don't happen all the time. When I came off Fearless after my 18 months onboard I gave my first preference as:

40, Seaton Barracks.
42, Bickleigh.
Both in Devon. My wife and at the time kid lived in an MQ in Plymouth.
41, Deal, in Kent.

The number one place to avoid for me was Logs, where did I go? LOGS! As long as yer arse points down expect the worse. :D
