2 Questions

Post by tom163 »

Alright lads, just wanted to know does anyone have a good warm up program they could share? I have been using this one I have got from the ACIO (baisc Infantry one) for about 6 months now and now im starting to run longer distances my legs are getting very tired and heavy quickly during my run. Can anyone sort me out?

Also at the minute before my run at about 6am I have my breakfast which is 2 weetabix a banana and 2 glasses of water. Can anyone suggest anything better that will keep my going longer or is what im eating ok?

Cheers Tom

Skipping is apprently a very good warm-up although I am not sure if it helps the legs on long distance.

When I had a job and had to ge up early in the morning to run, I found I prefered to have just a slice or two of toast and drink some water. When I got back I would then have my weetabix or whatever. I prefered this because I could go straight out for my run and not feel my breakfast reminding me of its presence the rest of the way!

What's your warm up now?
Before you insult someone, first walk a mile in their shoes, that way when you insult them, you are a mile away and you have their shoes.

Its the one I got like on a poster from my ACIO, streching different parts for 5 seconds each, a few pressups to get blood flowing and jumping and jogging on spot for 20 seconds.

Look into more dynamic stretching - a search on google for "dynamic stretching" will give you a tonne of results and the theory behind it. You need to be warm beforehand though. I'm always surprised when peope eat before running etc in the morning, I have to do it with a few sips of water or juice as solids just don't agree with me soon before exercise. Each to their own though.

How much water would anyone recommend taking? I drink about half a pint- maybe slighlty less. I don't eat a lot either, maybe a piece of toast. Will eating/ drinking more improve/ worsen my times at all? Or is it a personal thing that changes from person to person?

Cheers

I'd say it's a personal thing. There's a lot of research into what and when is best to eat to give optimum performance, but if you're talking about training in the morning when you wake up, you're obviously not going to wake up 4 hours before this to cook and eat a decent meal. Just play around with it and see what works best for you, like how much and what to eat/drink, and how long to leave before moving off on it. I reckon if I left half an hour I could probably train with a light breakfast in me, but I prefer not to have to wait for that time so go on empty.

Yeah it must change in different people. My mate can eat a big fatty full english breakfast and then run within the next 15 minutes were as I doubt I could do that. I try and keep it to a light breakfast if possible.
