Joining RMR whilst in college

Post by M3LIX »

Hi,
I was wondering if joining the RMR when in college is a good idea. I live a couple of hours away from London by train so it's not too far, but I was thinking if it's a good idea or not and if anyone else does it?
Another thing I'm not 100% sure about is the minimum time of service. Is it 4 years?

Thanks guys

You sign a contract for 4 years service but we were told you can leave before this but you have to attend 4 weeks notice ie. turn up for drill nights and weekends for the following 4 weeks after handing in your notice.

If you can fit it in with your tuition, then do it.
Proviso you must remain totally committed to
college and the RMR. I did both.

You say that you want to join RMR London, if you do you will find that in some intakes up to a third of the recruits are students. Sure some drop out as they have difficulty balancing recruit training with their studies but short of being unemployed you will always have to balance the RMR with something.
Your location is down as Essex so do remember that RMR London has outposts in Chatham and has just opened one in Cambridge. Having said that the volume of people in the HQ in London means that if it is a close call over distance/ time to get in then I woudl opt for there.

Good luck,
Von

thanks a lot guys. I'm glad to hear that I can drop out if I need to, not that I'm planning to, but it means I'm not under so much presure. I'll think about it.
Thanks for the advice

I do not want to be unkind. However it is not the right attitude
to join the RMR or RM with the idea that you can drop out of
either on a whim. You must offer 100% committment at all times.
I was a nipper joining at 17 the RMFVR all of 5'6" the minimum
height requirement in those days and weighing in at a colossal
9'7lbs.
Three years later I was a YO with the coveted green lid. So it can
be done. Good luck to everyone- " Go for it."

Give it a go, you'll like it!

You might even want to go regular.

Good luck,
