As far as I know fella, you don't do any press ups or sit ups. Just the 1.5 mile run and a lot of other tested exercises such as pull ups, static lift, jerry can run.

No doubt,
you'll have press ups and sit ups in basic and P-coy though. Correct me if im wrong anyone but they're just the most simple punishments to the section when some1 f@#k up. So in my view it'd always look good to the beaster in charge if 1 of you's is having a good crack at it.

All the best

Static lift? I never knew you had to lift anything to make it in, apart from your own bodyweight.

Anybody know why this is?

I'm not too sure if it's even a pass or fail test. I think they just want to know your capabilities when it comes to things like this. Besides, there is a lot of lifting in the military from what I've heard, especially artillery etc.

Apparently it simulates lifting an ammo box onto the back of a truck. It's not done as a free weight though, you use a machine.

You do several different weights, the heaviest being 50kg if I remeber correctly, but it's not hard and when I did it everyone managed to lift the heaviest weight.

you do the old back strength machine where youre strapped in and you push forward with youre hips then the static lift where you stand on a board and it has a bar that you pull the hell out of it doesnt go anywhere and the measurment is read by a computer then you lift three differnt weights going up in weight to a mark on the the bar that is at the same height as tghe back of a 4 tonner then the jerry can test wich is a piece of piss then the team skills courses make sure you try to take charge but also listen to other ppls opinions and do it fast .the 1.5 mile course is as doddle its mostly flat if its rained then there may be a few big puddles to wade through but its a damn sight easier than the 1.5 milebft course at catterick .you WILL do lots of press ups and variouse other "exercises" in the block gym (corridor) but when you get there you will do 1.5 ,press ups ,sit ups ,and they are all best effort we had one guy that did only 19 press ups in 2 mins he was put on "remedial " pt which ment he had to go to the platton office first thing on a morning and last thing on a night and do a shit load of press ups this along with the corridor pt boosted his press ups to around 50 i think it was

sorry for waffling just a quick story there

You dont do pressups & situps at selection. Selection is very easy. All it is is a 1.5 mile run which you should be looking at under 9 Minutes. Some pullsups get over 10+ then some buckshee weightlifting exercises. P.S Make sure the staff there dont try and fob you off with ' Your to small to join the paras' etc.

The real work fellas starts at depot, first thing is screening week which you have to pass otherwise you will be sent to browning until the next intake. Trust me you want to spend the least amount of time in depot as possible

What happens now then sandy? Is there any tests they have to pass in week 1, or is it straight into mainstream training from day 1??

What about the wasters who arnt fit enough to start mainstream training?

Screening week was good for finding out who was really fit enough, as recruit selection isnt very thorough. :-?

I got quite a lot of back exercises from the Physio-therapist which work the 'core muscles'. Maybe go looking for them, ask around. They would definitely help. But then again I don't know of anyone who's failed these little tests like jerry cans, back strength etc
