RMR Joining

Post by JamesSly1989 »

Hi everyone, im new to this site but am a member of the brother site, military forums.
Im hoping to join the RMR soon and have just got in touch with my nearest Unit (Henley-on-Thames) I think……which is 60 miles away! Anyway I was wandering if my fitness levels are up to scratch.. I run 4 times a week, and cover 4.7miles in 32mins 34 seconds running on hilly roads. I also do press-ups and sit ups to in which I normally score about 49 and 65. Are my fitness levels up to scratch?? And is there any way around having to travel so far every week to join up?? I will be greatful for any advice given

Your fitness sounds okay as a starting point, but apart from moving house I can't see how you can cut your travelling distance.

Your fitness levels sound fine as a basis for RMR training, what are your pull ups like? Remember though that on selection you will tired before you do the actual tests so incorporate that into your training by seeing what your scores are like after a run etc.

Just make sure you are doing correct form e.g. marine press ups and when you are doing sit ups make sure you are coming all the way back up, not half way.

Looks like Henley will be your nearest det but there isn't really a way of geting around the nearest unit thing, you don't have to attend all the holding troop sessions but once you start RT you will have to be there, you at least get expenses though. Do you drive or would you be train-ing it?

cheers guys for your comments. i can do 12 overgrasp pull-ups. i will be driving it. i recieved an email today that selection is coming up soon, what is the process within regards to starting training, and how often will i have to go away to do training? i only ask due to the fact that i wont have a car until around July time and need to know how frequent my travelling will be. also what areas of my fitness need to be improved? longer distance or faster times?

What stage are you in the application? Have you done the PJFT yet or had a medical?

Id say start concentrating on building up to longer distances, as when you can do 6+ miles the 3 miler will be a lot easier.

The RMR website has loads of info about training, as a guide it works out at about 1 weekend in 3, plus the 2 week courses at the end of each phase etc
