Those that have done a PRMC

Post by ali_hire »

When you were going through the so-called hell that is bottom field, how many sets of exercises (press ups, sit ups, etc.) did you have to complete?

From reading the PRMC diary DaveB says that they ran about 200m around a wall and then back to the PTI before doing press ups, sit ups and tuck jumps. Then they threw in commando crawling, etc. He goes on to say that they repeated this about 3 times. This doesn't seem like enough to make up 20mins to me.

I'm sure that the last thing on your mind when your on bottom field is keeping count of the amount of reps or sets you have done but can anyone varify roughly how many times you are sprinting/doing exercises, etc.??

It will vary from PTI to PTI mate, but on my 2nd PRMC it was different still, we did roughly 10 press ups, sit ups and standee uppees straight after each other, sprinted to the cargo nets, crawled under it and sprinted back, double timeing whilst waiting for the others, then you'd repeat that a few times then run up a steep hill a couple of times too, then repeat it all over again.

Like I said though, it depends on the PTI and what they want to do. Best thing to do is train in a similar fashion until you really want to stop and push through that little bit more.

Cheers Dave.

Have been reading through the pages and pages of posts about different people's experiences on bottom field and got the impression that no two are the same.

I've basically been doing just that, circuits until I want to give up and then pushing it out for as long as I can after that.

Just going to try and switch off when I get down there and think of something nice.

Ali,

Keep up with a few real balls out circuits mate and you should be fine for bottom field. The thing to remember is Bottom field is going to be a hang out regardless, as that is what it is designed for. Even the fittest of the guys on PRMC will find bottom field nasty, as it is at an intensity that very few will have trained at before. So the closer you can train to that yourself before you go the better.

Basilcally when i was training for my second PRMC having failed the first, i just tried to replicate bottom field, so i just sprinted around like a headless chicken doing circuits, i even added commando crawls in (looked like an idiot i imagine but who cares). Just make sure when you are doing your circuits, that you are not stopped at any time, not having a rest at any time in any way. Bottom field on PRMC is constant, so get used to sprinting, then going straight into press ups and burpees etc then sprinting straight off again, and then straight back into more execises. Get some hill sprints in to it, and you can even add double timeing in if you want, as this is quite nasty, even more so when your hanging out (basically knees up jogging on the spot).

Like you said, when your knackered just keep going for a bit more, then a bit more. I actually failed my first PRMC for coming in behind the rest on the on the 3 miler, but it was the exertions on bottom field the day before that got me (i did mine a while back when the 3 miler was the day after bottom field). It was the extra training on circuits that really got my fitness up for my second PRMC, and to be fair i passed easily the second time, so they are important.

Good luck mate,

yeah i agree with dwarfy, they seem to vary but i'd say taht on ours we must have done a good 10-15 sprints back and forth and also a piggy back race.
In my training i would go out for a 2mille run at full pelt, really going for it and doing it in like 13mins and then goin straight into a pushups, situps, pullup circuit followed by sum form of sprinting.

Yeah it must have been the 10-15 sprints, i can remember tom right up the front the fit SOB lol. It was all sorts they did somin called up and downies, wher eyou stand up straight fall over on your back and have to jump back up into the position again, knackering after all youve been doing. Plenty of pushups downhill and situps up hill. Lots of sprints up and down a hill around a tent and down to the 6ft wall. Just dig in, that all you have to remember. Whats 45 mins of your life?

I don't know if you've seen this before ali, but I think it's a fantastic workout, and I think is designed to mimmick bottom field.

The Beast

I've been doing it without the running bits in between for about 6 weeks now, but I did it on Friday with the running bits included, and it's a real killer. I find the burpees, squat thrusts and clap press ups the hardest. I tried to time myself but my phone battery died half way through it. Think im going to do it tomorrow and really push myself through it all.

heres what the usealy exercise routine ie:

during warm up, you get to learn each section of bottom field,ie monkey bars, cargo net ext, with speed exercise on each one:example: sprint under cargo net then run back ect.

once this you do warm up: you have to run to a wall at far end by the swing boads to the left, 5 ft wall it called about 100 ish mtres. then run round it and back do 10 press,10 sit-ups,10 knees to chest(burpies but without jump at end)

you do this for around 15 mins NON-STOP. they will say example" he did 9 press-ups, round the wall again" this keeps going on and on,untill you do it right or 15 mins over.

you get tired fast and basicaly stick with main group, if you do fall behind do not worry remember this just to tire you up and doesnt count for scores.

once you done this the test begins(you have to market time while the people in front of you do their test course run)
hope this helped.
