PRMC or RT getting easier??
Hey guys, i heard from my mate the other day that the training is getting easier with the Corps because of the low recruitment rates??
Is this true?? Im hoping its not, but if it is im sure it would just be the PRMC/POC and not the RT.

I'm hoping it's not, although when i was at the careers office the other day i got told off an officer that the pass rate for PRMC has doubled this year! resulting in a 4 month waiting time to begin RT.
It may be due the fact that more and more people are applying but not to sure wether this is true, as i aint got no figures on the number of applicants!

CTCRM - 935 Troop
To be honest I think some guys who actually fail the PRMC would still pass RT. Back a few years ago the PRMC or PRC did not really exist I believe it was just a time at CTC or Deal and then those they did not want they removed (or they quit). I bet some of the guys back then would not have passed todays PRMC. This might sound like an odd opinion but I was actually told this my several former Royal Marines who state that the selection for RT these days is a lot harder than it used to be.

Well on PRMC they'll tell you to expect a 3-6 week wait to begin RT. I had a 4 week wait and others from my PRMC have got the same date so it sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.chris5818 wrote:I'm hoping it's not, although when i was at the careers office the other day i got told off an officer that the pass rate for PRMC has doubled this year! resulting in a 4 month waiting time to begin RT.

As far as I'm aware, the pass rate for PRMC has always been around 60%, this was certainly true on mine but one course during the heatwave in July was down to below 50%.
The number of applicants has risen considerably. The Corps has been around 2000 men short for while, apparently the deficit is now only 1000.
Take what you hear with a pinch of salt guys. With all due respect to them, the old and the bold will always tell you it was harder in their day but the Commando tests have remained unchanged for years.

Greg.

I'm suprised you havent heard that recruitment has shot up for all the forces recently, not just the Royal Marines. The PRMCs aren't getting easier, theres just a huge increase in recruitment.
Wonder why though
The only thing that has changed is health and safety etc. Remember that kid who died from an infection from barbed wire and the spack who fell off the rope hang

No, they are sayin it is harder now - well getting to RT at least is -would not like to start a debate about whether RT has got easier - yes I believe the commando tests have gone unchanged for years.Greg The Great wrote:chris5818 wrote:With all due respect to them, the old and the bold will always tell you it was harder in their day but the Commando tests have remained unchanged for years.

Can't speak for recruits but for officers, recruitment levels are at an all time high, over 500 people attempted POC in 2006, there's only around 40 slots in the batch!
POC: Passed 21 June '06
AIB: Passed 28 June '06
AIB round 2: Failed!
PRMC: 26 June '07: Passed
RT: 24th Sept '07
Week 27 - Final Ex after Easter leave - blargh

Re: PRMC or RT getting easier??
This reminds me of the exams situation, A-Levels and GCSE's. People complain because pass rates are up and assume that the standards are dropping. They forget to think that people may just be getting smarter and are more prepared for exams with the help of the internet and computers/books.AJtothemax wrote:Hey guys, i heard from my mate the other day that the training is getting easier with the Corps because of the low recruitment rates??
I have not done a PRMC yet but I reckon people are just getting more clued up and are preparing better, this is excellent for the corps. I am sure that I would not pass a PRMC first time around if it was not for this website and the helpful information it has given me. I feel confident I can pass the PRMC if I sort my leg out, mfat.co.uk has given me a better insight into the corps than any AFCO or booklet, plus I am 99% sure of what to expect during PRMC and RT now.
