Question regarding snot

Post by superbuzzmetal »

Each time I run, after the run or in the end I start to get the urge to spit snot (dunno if it's the right word in english) sometimes it's alot, sometimes it's not.
This as happened to me almost all my life although this year it's been happening alot more. I also had pneumonia in April maybe it's connected, but besides pneumonia is it a normal thing ?
I also dont smoke and only drink from time to time...

Do you mean you're coughing up phlegm.

You are best off going to a doctor if you are.

Hi mate

I've been suffering with a chest infection of late, and still coughing although the Dr has told me the infection has gone! Are you sure you have 100% recovered? Might need a trip back to the MD.

The other thing is might be is an allergy? This is something I might need to have checked out via an allergy test.

I checked the definition of phlegm, mine is healthy phlegm (clear or white)
After I was diagnosed with pneumonia I took a very strong antibiotic that in the md words still works after I stop taking it. I did an chest x ray a month after and the md only found residual liquid on my lung. Could this be an allergy like you said ?

Not sure!

I'm just saying think laterally the problem might come from elsewhere.

Do you mean suck it from you're nose into you're throat then spit it out? I get a bit of a snotty nose when I'm running, I usually blow it out on my vest as im running.

Or do you mean from you're chest?

Maybe it's from my nose, from the deep breath I take during running ? It starts building up in my throat while I run, I usually prefer to spit unless I am not alowed, dunno if it's a bad thing if you swallow it :o

Phegm from the nose and throat is not uncommon during hard physical exercise - that's what you see professional footballers and rugby players spitting out on the TV. It can feel like it's building up in the top of your throat and almost obstructing your breathing unless you spit/swallow regularly. I often wonder if 10 years smoking makes mine worse than other peoples?! So it may be nothing out of the ordinary. If it's not causing you problems then it's probably okay.

I hope it's that then, thanks for clearing that up. As for smoking, I bet it your respiratory system has too work twice a much due to all the filfth that you breath when you smoke. Although it depends on some people, I had a mate that would smoke 2 fags and drink half a pint everytime before a rugby game, he outplayed every member of our team, one of the best runners in our team

If your coughing up that sh!t then it means you are on the tail end of an infection, so its not completly gone. As this phlegm if coughed up to stop it entering your lungs, so it shows your body is still working! Id rest for a couple more weeks (jeese thats my answer to everything these days  )

Yeah, the smoking can't be good for me, but I was still one of the runners in my troop when I passed out, 60min endurance course and 10 min Tarzan :o

I'll still get cancer tho

Can't be bad with that time. Running didn't agree with me although the RSM didn't seem to have the same viewpoint

Been back to the Doctor this week now been given an inhaler although I have STILL got a bad cough and no exercise apart from walking :x
