Foreign Legion
Anybody got any info on the Legion, got the pamphlet off them but they don't like to tell you much except "come over if your really interested". If anybody has any experiences or details please don't hesitate to post. tanx
Im lucky enough to count two formeer legionaires among my closer freinds - both say its an amazing experience, both say that at times its worse than the worse stories you may have heard about it.
Both of them are two of the best presented, most humble, down to earth gents I know.
Just bear in mind your expendable if you decide to go for it and get in.

I looked in to the Legion at the start of the year, every former British Legionnaire with prior UK military service i spoke to on forums stated that the Legion was not on par with the Marines or Paras, you are expendable and no one misses a few dead foreigners, your equipment is of poor quality, the food is basic and medical treatment for injury is almost non existent.
The only thing that keeps the Legion going is Honneur et Fidélité, if your fortunate enough to come from the UK then you have the ability to be part of the worlds best fighting units, dont join the Legion unless you have a criminal record.
Also the 2nd Rep (motto Demerdez - Vous, make do, not exactly inspiring) is rarely used these days, they spend their time running around the hills of Corsica and playing sports. If you do go try for the 1st Rec (1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment) although im told they spend most of their time cleaning.
I dont want to keep bashing the Legion as every British guy I have spoke to has been a legend but the Legion is not what you expect it to be, get the myths out of your head and to some research, its not called the Legion of the lost for no good reason.

G'day Mulligan
Iam also intrested in the Legion and looked into it with a fellow South African friend of mine and we both ended up applying for the Royal Marines and both did the same PRMC and now will both join on the same RT date.
But enough of my life story i looked into it in great detail and meet a couple of fellow aussies that had both spent time in the legion and both agreed that its what you make of it and it was hard for them as they had previous experience in 3RAR { para reg of the Australian army} and were constanly comparing. Some sad stories about not being able to use a compass from there captain whilst clearly getting lost and other various differences in joining.
A site that they both recommended and i used were as follows
http://cervens.net/legionbbs/
- Forum site with good Mfat style posts
http://www.kepi.cncplusplus.com/
- Australian bloke who is now an officer i believe in the legion...his story with some great photos.
I hope this helps mate. For me personally i came to the uk for the level of traning that the uk could provide as i beleive its second to none.
