Is age a problem?

Post by ash2y »

I just got this book 'hte making of a royal marines commando' and it gives me the idea that a younger recruit will have a big disadvantage on prmc and in recruit training. I want to go for it when im 16 but in this book it says average age is 20 so in training with all older blokes they will probably definetely handle the pressure and strain alot better than i could so can you al give your opinions and is there anyone else who is 16-17 who have been to prmc?

Alright Ash2y,

I would say it depends on 2 things mate :

1) How much you want it.

2) The person.

Plenty of 16 / 17 year old manage to pass training, so there's no reason why you can't too, but I would be inclined to say at 20 years old you would probably find training "easier".
I'm only a "Rubber Dagger" so I'm probably not the best person to advise you, but I have spent some time at Lympstone training and have to say if I attempted recruit trainaing at 16 / 17 I would have lasted about 2 day's at a push - Everyone's different though mate.

my mate did his prmc when he was 16. and im 17 and hopefuly once passed this PJFT il do mine this year.

though he did say it is much harder on prmc, sinse most like you said 20+ thus when on bottom field " last one does extra 10 pressups" well. hopefuly you arent but most likely wil allways be one of the last sinse most of the 20 year olds he said were much fitter than the younger ones.

though dont be put off. sinse iv heard before thin skinny, reletively weak 16 year olds passing prmc just cos they passed bottom field+ 3 miler.
even though they may only be able to do min for press+ sit+ pull they stil passed( though on RT i guess they would find it very hard)

Its the running ive got to work on ive got quite a high rate or situps and pressups cus ive been lifting since i was 13 but now ive gave up because i need to work on stamina instead. So ill be ok then do you think..wont it be tougher than me doing things like firemans carry and stuff whoever had 2 carry me would have a whale of a time me being so young but when it comes to it if i have to carry some big bloke :o

Oryt mate my PRMC is this Tuesday and I am only 16. I can understand why you are anxious, but Im really confident and am absolutley determined that I will pass. And I can understand that it may seem daunting to us younger lads when you begin to train with lads 20+ but personally It does not bother me at all, I find because of my personality I will be able to get on with the older lads really well. Also an advantage for us younger lads is that we havent properley experienced the drinking culture yet so we dont need to train extra hard to get rid of the beer belly :D . Anyway good luck mate

It all boils down to your individual personality, we had a lad in our grot during training who was 16 and was a cock! Needless to say we had to grip him, he didnt last long anyway, if you have a mature approach you will do fine.
