Hi fellas,

I went on the one in Newcastle about 2 weeks ago. It was great fun and would recommend it to anyone who has any desire to become a Royal Marine or even if you just fancy a day out.

There is no commitment to the Corps at all, in our group of about 20, before hand only about 6 or 7 said they were seriously considering joining the RM's, the rest claimed they just wanted to see what it was all about. At the end of the day everyone commented on how much they enjoyed it.

During the day you do the following:

Watch an introductory video and brief
Paintballing
Weapon Familiarisation with SA80, using Night vision goggles etc
Brief talk about the vehicles used

We were then driven about 5 miles out of town where we fired live rounds with the SA80 and viewed a range of foreign weapons - beware of the Cam cream (nightmare to get off!) We also watched a demo on sustained fire with the GPMG which was impressive.

On return to base we were shown around various tents which were set up with displays from the various areas the RM work from i.e. Artic, Jungle and desert.

We then got rigged up in life jackets and went on the Zodiac Inflatable Raiding Craft which was good fun - hold on tight, one lad went for a "swim" and got beasted for his troubles.

Once dried off etc we moved inside and learned the basics of rope climbing and wall climbing, unfortunately we couldnt do abseiling due to the instructors having to leave early. We finished the day with some unarmed combat, which was excellent.

Must say a big thank you to the guys from 40cdo who were all great lads and a credit to the corps - all absolute machines by the way!!! :o

The age range was from between 15 and 33 (ish) so it is really open to everyone, including females (there was one on our course)

Definately go if you have any days coming up around your area - plus its free!

Regards,
Dan

Hey Hanson, this 'fun' day in Bristol, where abouts is it? Also, how did you get to hear about it I tried searching for it on the Navy website and found no more details. Is it invite only? How'd you hear about it?

I'm going to one in Nottingham on saturday sounds like it should be a good crack! All I did was call the AFCO in Nottingham, I don't think it will be to late to call them I only rang them on thursday. The AFCO in Derby reckons that its mainly lads going for PRMC attending on saturday.
