Orthotics, are the allowed?

Post by Bullet Sponge »

Alright lads, I'm new to this forum and was just wondering are you allowed wear orthotics during recruit training or would they give the medical officer a reason to discharge you. I don't have flat feet but like everyone else I know I overpronate when I run and as an amateur athlete I was advised by a sports physiotherapist to get them just to prevent any unnecessary injuries. Any help would be appreciated.[quote] " Heres to you and heres to me the best of friends we'll ever be and if we ever disagree then f**k you and heres to me"

I have heard the word 'overpronation' used a lot, what actually is it? Is it just moving your feet (well toe part) upwards to much when you run?

Yes you are allowed orthotics, I've even been informed that you can claim back costs for those sought of things when in the corps.

Overpronation is when the foot rolls inwards too much between the heel strike and when you push off as you run. The opposite of pronation is sustination.

Overpronation

Its when your mid-foot lands excessively inwards as you're walking or running , most running shoes have arch support to help reduce this. It means that the shock from the impact of running is not evenly distributed up the leg and can lead to a range of injuries such as shin splints, runners knee and more.

Hehehe, I asked that exact same question at my Orthapedic checkup and he said it would be like them turning you down for having physiotheraphy. Surgery is where it starts to borderline.

Well that can't apply to all can it (overpronation)?

When I was two years old I broke both my legs at the same time and since then, the last 16 years, I have walked with a severe incline (look like a proper spaz if you watch me walk from the back lol) but it's never effected my running in the form of shin splints or runners knee, actaully I think I had runners knee once but thats another story.
